Sebenza lock failure?

Unfortunately even while explaining the benefits of the Strider's design concepts and why its fine/okay if your Strider develops blade play (they know what they're doing because they build knives for the military) he feels the need to say something negative about the Sebenza (@14:20 into the review) and how one wouldn't lock up because there was a little "pocket lint" and some "Fluorinated grease" on the lockbar and the Sebenza doesn't have a poop vent. I happen to me a fan of the Strider SMF so I can certainly understand his praise of the it but in my opinion he should have left the negativity regarding the Sebenza out of his Strider review. Of course that's just my opinion and he's certainly entitled to his own.

http://www.youtube.com/user/NeptuneKnives Should I buy a Strider? (video)

Sad thing is, though his model might not have it, all the new ones do.

Ha ha, I posted this last night on the video, then saw he removed it.

"@NeptuneKnives

"It's the design not quality". Wrong, read Bob Terzulas book. He explains all the different recipes for a good lockup regarding liner locks, the same principles are applied to framelocks.

I tried posting it again.

"You have been blocked by the owner of this video" is the response.

I think this video would have been ok if he was using as a discussion tool rather than trying to preach as if he has ultimate knowledge. Many assumptions and not much proof in his discussion.

Still, aside from the 90% crap in this video it was still somewhat interesting.

I happen to like his videos whether or not the info is correct idk or care. He is a very nice guy as well.

He wasnt that nice... After some well derserved criticism about his video he got a little pissy and his potty mouth came out. Then I got banned from his channel. :sorrow: :D

He over looked one thing is that when you use any knife you are holding it, and your hand is on the lockbar reenforcing it and holding it in place. Even on a balisong, like a spyderco spiderfly you HAVE to hold the handles together. So your tests aren't completely valid. I also doubt that people spine whack in everyday use. Plus anything will break if you push it hard enough.

Allim saying is that he is a nice guy. That's my opinion and I'm welcome to it. He has been nothing but nice to me. Maybe get to know him before you bash him. Idk that's all I have to say.

The guy has some points but you will have to watch all his videos to get it.
He could be more organised.
Normal use has nothing to do with his tests. He can make a lock fail and then compare some knifes in extreme situations.
This does not mean that the knife that fails his test is bad.
I agree with some of his ideas (military screws are not the best quality, CRK are very good).

That guy has taken "stupid" to a whole new level.

Amen bro! He's a babbling idiot! Talks about all these locks and lock failures and why they happen but does nothing to prove his points. I guess he just expects his watchers to blindly believe him! Not me!

"Amen bro! He's a babbling idiot!"

Maybe, although he's got a business, a wife, and a cool dog:) It just seems that anyone (Ankerson with the Manix 2) who does a limits test on a folder gets fed to the wolves. BTW, I watched all three videos as well as the conclusions video, and never saw him explain the legos.

I watched the video myself where the Sebenza failed his spine whack test. But my problem is this. How does anyone know how that knife has been treated beforehand. My experience has been once a frame lock or liner knife has been pushed to the point that it's lock fails, it's much much easier to make it fail again after the first failure. And he never shows any of the other knives being spine whacked. He just babbles on and on about how good some brands are and how crappy other brands are. He plainly indicates that Chris Reeve does not design his frame locks properly! Lol ! I wonder if he knows Chris Reeve is the father of the frame lock!

If you seriously believe that Strider framelocks are actually better made or superior in any way over Sebenza framelocks you have zero credibility. If you believe having a tiny bit of the lockbar contacting the blade tang is better than having the entire lockbar making contact then you also believe in things like http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=speed holes. "Crap vent" lockup is an excuse for poor engineering and tolerances.

This guy also says that edge trailing strokes on a sharpening stone makes the edge weak because you are "pulling" steel off the knife. I don't even understand how he can come up with that.

Be nice to your knives.

An aside. My partner and I were testing some knives for an article we were writing. At that time, Cold steel was demonstrating spine whacking as a test to their locks integrity via their videos. We tested our sample group for a few months running them through the paces and using them on duty. After a few months of use, I was playing in my garage and decided to spin whack test a few knives.

Aside: what a dumb test for a folder. I would never use a folder like that in a real world situation.

Maybe I just got a really good CRK Sabenza, but mine broke the brand new red brick I spine whacked. That's good enough performance for me. I had to kiss and make up with the Sabenza after that test.

Bottom line: Are CRK knives worth the price tag? They are worth every penny. They are truly ridiculous knives. Ten years and no blade play. I mean, I have used that knife. Really, who makes knives like that? Sorry if I took us off topic.

Interesting video; I learned more about his mental conditions than I did about pocket knives.

p.s. is it me or does the knife community need a vacation from vocabulary such as "tactical situations," "survival," and "SWAT team stuff".

Not only that but when I use a knife I'm applying pressure on the cutting edge not on the spine of the blade. I've never had a lock fail on ANY of my knives so I'm not sure why this lock strength issue is such a big deal to some people. Of course you want the knife to function as it should but when I'm cutting something more pressure is put on the stop pin than the lock itself.

Ok guys, this dude just made another video on Sebenza knives, and i feel we need to get this guy to use some common sense. i do not like the fact that he is just dogging on Chris Reeve. Does he not understand, Mr. Reeve was the Orginator of the Frame lock, come on dude, do some research before you dog on the Godfather of the framelock, Dude you sent you knife back to Mr. Reeve and he repairs it and returns it to you in a timely manner, and you have the nerve to spine wack the knife once more and complain about how Mr. Reeve tried to sneak it back to you. No dude Mr. Reeve probably got tired of your B.S. and wanted to avoid your dumbass questions. Who wouldn't????
