Sebenza Spydie Hole Mod

How would you absorb the thumb stud hole into it? You couldn't just drill it out, you would have to get below it to start drilling. I would love to have that hole in my sebenza.

I'm wondering if waterjetting the hole might be feasible. Not too familiar with it in terms of hardness, I know the material thickness wouldn't be an issue, but I don't know how well they can cut hardened steel.

Sacrilege -may they burn in hell :)
Off hand it is fixing something I don't think needs fixing. I would really have to have it in hand to make a full judgment on it. They did seem to do a clean job on it though.
Overall probably not for me, but likely the pimper was happy with the results

To me the hole does look a little bigger than necessary. I think it was that big, to match the relief of the cutout, in the closed position. Looks like some clean work though.

One question, what tool would you use to cut a hole in a hardened knife blade?

I’d use a wire EDM if you had one handy/available to you. Could use the existing sebbie hole from the thumbstud as a start hole.

I don’t think drilling would be practical without a carbide drill unless they’re run pretty soft. Even that might be problematic with the existing hole—might grab. It should be possible with really slow feed and speed though.

Depends on your budget. With a Sebenza 21 selling for $375.00 new that’s precious to most. And the mod must kill resale value.
It's not about money. It's about the fact that there are 40 billion nearly identical Sebenzas out there. If it were a Loveless or Rex Applegate's personal dagger, I could see the objection to modifying it. However, it's just an expensive production knife. Nothing special, really.

At least after the mod it's unique and personal.

You could do that with a dremel but you'd have to be REALLY careful!
I like it.

My eyes can’t unsee that monstrosity :p
Actually, it’s nicely done. The only reason I’d never do something like that because it would kill the warranty and probably any service CRK offers.

Love it, wish someone with a water jet would start offering this as a service.

Who knows. They do sell replacement blades. They might still warranty the knife, particularly if you bought a nee blade for it.

But.... wait....
I thought sebenzas weren't for flicking?

Warranty? Not on the blade, anymore.
Resale value killed? For many buyers, yes... but I'd bet there are some that would pay extra.

You have to send the knife in for a blade change. I’d bet they wouldn’t touch it. They’ve turned away mods made on the slabs.

I can see it being the case if there is a lock up issue after some dunce threw the lock scale in a tumbler or some heavy acid wash for example that might have screwed with the lock face. But if hole in the blade voids the entire warranty (and factory spa/sharpening for the matter) they should be ashamed.
Thats akin to your car losing warranty for different rims or new seats.
