Security in the timber

My Ruger and Bond. That derringer is great to shoot.

Neither did Meredith Emerson.......

The recent murder of a married couple in Pisgah National Forest by the same perp not withstanding, I'm reduced to carrying nothing more than a .22 with a barrel length not greater than 7.5 inches. Technically, anyway. It's about curtailing poachers, you see... Fortunately, Smith & Wesson makes lightweight j-frames in a variety of useful calibers... ;)

My RC-3 batonned firewood just fine, but after a run-in with some loose dogs at my campsite, it seemed less than ideal as anti-canine medicine. I won't let weight keep my RD-6 at home anymore.

Usually one of these. Ruger New Model Vaquero .357, S&W 3" .44 magnum, Kimber .45, or my grandfather`s old S&W Model 15 .38 that he carried when he was Chief of Police in the town where I live in the early 1960`s.

You have good taste, Scott!

Not pictured here is a Springfield XD9 that I just got and am really liking. It will be on a lot of trips with me this summer. Aglock 33 has done some trips in the past. The 1911 has seen, and likely always will see, the most holster time.

I picked up a Springfield XD9 Tactical. I like it better than my wife`s Glock.

I usually carry a rifle in the woods. If not, then a Glock 21.

14 rounds of .45ACP ain't nothing to sneeze at.

Well, you can't just carry handguns here legally under most circumstances so of course I would never do that...it is totally wrong to put your own safety above the abstract concept of a society in which people have fewer handguns (particularly when you are fifty miles from any society that could possibly be affected by a person safely carrying a handgun.) So obviously I always do the right thing and leave all my handguns in a locked vault, and the ammo in a separate locked vault, because of course you never know when they'll just load themselves and start murdering children on account of how evil they are.

I'm a 1911 guy but I also own a 6" GP100 and coincidentally a Puma 92 in that same wonderful caliber...357 mag.

And half the time I have one of the m14s on me, not because I think I'll need it but because I'm out shooting for fun.

To be honest most of the places I go are ones where the odds of seeing another person are pretty tiny, and the odds of any person you do see being interested in hurting you smaller still.

I own guns just because I like them, not really because I worry much.

Of course I am totally supportive of people who carry for defense, though.

Great pics guys. I gotta get out and do some shooting. :D

Grandpa was a gun type of guy. He had a gold bead inset into the front sight to pick up light. This was before you could even get the red ramps on S&W`s. I never got a chance to find out who did the modifications on this one, he died when I was eight. Smoothest action I`ve ever felt on a DA revolver.

I carry a Springfield Armory LW Loaded Champion .45 with me pretty much everywhere. Never know when I'll run into someone I arrested. I'll post a pic soon as my wife gets off my computer

What would you carry to feel more secure against two legged predators while out in the timber? For me it's my trusty Springfield 1911 45 auto and an 8" big blade. A 45 and O1, can't think of any better security then that. :D

That works for me.:thumbup::thumbup:

I carry my S&W 1911 and my SBR.
and for those that don't worry about people while in the backountry, do a little more research on the subject, you'll be suprised at how many murders/abductions have occured in the outdoors.

Generally A Ruger SP101 with some hardcast handloads, and if I can an HI Imports Khukuri.

I know the Supersoaker listed above was intended as a joke but a powerful squirt gun filled with household ammonia is a fearsome chemical weapon. Just don't shoot, or pee into the wind.

LOL

Well we can't carry guns down here, but as for defence I always have my bush tools (knife or two), that would serve as a deterant if needed. When hiking alone, I always find a nice hardwood walking stick, which would make a good defensive tool if needed.

I guess I'm the only idiot that doesn't carry a gun in the woods.

I've got my dog and always have a FB and Folder of some sort. My dog is a great judge of character and I am always aware of my surroundings. Call it corny, but I believe my mind is one of the best weapons I have. And I'm still alive.... :)

I always feel better when I have this pair with me.... Neither one has ever failed me (and I don't think they ever will).

Call it corny and I'll call ya stupid. This is the best weapon anyone has. It is no secret or wonder why LE, S/O and military train the mind so much. It is the most flexible, adaptable, and efficient tool we have...

I hike naked with a gunbelt holding a Khukuri. I dont have problems with people anymore.
