Security in the timber

I hike naked with a gunbelt holding a Khukuri. I dont have problems with people anymore.

The graphic of naked dude hikin' around the woods with a belt and a knife has me cracking up. I'd have to take a picture.... Who the hell would ever believe me.

Please don't do it.

I have two that I like for the woods.

Argentine 1927 1911A1 clone.

S&W 19-5 2.5 inch .357, black Teflon finish.

I've also been know to carry a Glock 17 or 19.

It all depends on where I'm going in the boonies, and what I'm doing, plus the terrain, etc.

Sometimes it's my old Colt Lightweight Commander .45ACP...

And other times it might be this outfit. Marlin .30-30, Ruger B.H. .45 Colt, Ruana Workman, and my old Camillus Stockman.

I don't always carry a rifle and handgun, sometimes one or the other... but I always carry a firearm. As I said, it all depends.

1) I have never seen a METRIC 1911 before! 11.25mm ACP LOL!!! (Yes, I see that it doesn't actually say ACP on it!)

2) Is the fore end on that Marlin one that you slimmed down, or is it an aftermarket, or did it come like that, or what? I like Marlins despite their chunky feel but that one is unusually slim!

Just curious, how many here tote long guns when out and about, but are not hunting? There's a couple that I'll keep from time to time depending on circumstances, but not that often. Infrequency is mostly due to dealing with the 'law' than anything else, though.

Misanthropist, I bought that Marlin 336 new in 1976. It came as it's pictured. I like the slender forearm, also.

I have a friend who has several Marlin 336 rifles and he has "slimmed" down the forearms, using rough sandpaper, then fine until he reaches the thickness he likes. Then he refinishes them. They look great.

Spooky Pistolero, in that shot I posted with the Marlin and Blackhawk .45 Colt, that was what I used on a five day scouting trip for elk in the backcountry of Idaho's central mountains late last Summer. I was alone, scouting by myself. My partner was two distant drainages away. The area contains Black bear, Mountain lions, and Canadian Grey wolves, plus an occasional "herb aficionado." ;)

I consider my outfit an insurance policy. Hope I won't need it, but .......................

Great guns guys. I would post ome pics, but most of mine are out at my fathers farm.
I do have my glock 19 here, but you all know what a glock looks like.

Those 1911s ARE MAKIN ME CRAZY........ I love my springfield, but my kimber got stolen out of my truck last year:mad:, and I havent been able to replace it......

Sorry to hear about your loss. :grumpy: I just don't know if I could go on without my beloved Kimber.

Well... not to ummmmmm.... rub it in, but I could always use one of these I guess..... :D

Great post Scott, thanks!

On a day hike, I generally carry either a 1911 or GP100 (.357). It just depends on what I'm doing and how I feel, I guess. Sometimes I favor the revolver, sometimes the semi. They're all good!

On a camping trip, I'll also have either my Ruger Super Blackhawk in .44 Mag or .45 LC. I am planning on getting a Marlin in .45 LC so I can have a matching set and only carry one type of ammo...

For sticking around camp, a 20 or 12 gauge would be hard to beat, though. We've had some iffy characters scoping us out over the years, and a good visible firearm within reach has generally kept the critters at bay...

As for knives, I like my CS Trailmaster or HI Ang Khola. They both have a great intimidation factor.

Sorry, don't have any pics but when I go out in the "woods" or concrete "jungle" I like to carry either my Springfield 1911 or Colt Delta Elite 10mm. I know: 10mm? I bought it back in the 80's and just can't part with it. My fix blade choice is either my Randall #1 7inch stage with finger grooves, Randall #5-6 or Randall #12-6. And for folders I like my Strider RC, AR and GB. I don't care if I can't lawfully carry in Kaliforina, better safe than dead!

I don't generally carry for day hikes. There's a whole lot of reasons, some of them legality, some of them situational. When I *do* it's a leetle 380.

If I ever live in a state where I won't get the death penalty for carrying a firearm, I'll change that up to a lightweight 5 shot .357 revolver.

I just about always have a fixed blade of reasonable size on me, and I'll strap on the 12 inch langseax I made last winter when I feel like it (harvest time in northern california, for example) - but I never really stress that on the legal side. A: it's legal. B: I'm getting a lot less flak from the LEOs since they've realized I make the things.

That les baer is tits man!!!!!

You have a very nice collection there man. I am a huge 1911 fan. My kimber got stolen right after I put gunner grips on it, and had 2 wilson combat mags with it. Lazyness on my part for not takin it in that night. I am wantin a ed brown next.

Now I keep a single shot cheapy 12 gauge in the truck, and my glock in my bag that goes in and out with me

My old S&W model 40, loaded with MagSafe, makes a nice companion for times when open carry isn't an option.

I always feel better when I have this pair with me.... Neither one has ever failed me (and I don't think they ever will).

Wow, that's a beautiful pair!!! Doesn't get much better than that.

OMG! I don't know if that mental image is making me cry from laughter or from pain.

Well, CA isn't all bad.

Your right to CC (of course if you meet all the requirements of the Gun Control Act of 1968) is restricted in California (that is the whole state... doesn't matter what region). They may (not shall) issue. Of course, that would depend if they think you deserve such a privilege. I am sure being your everyday, usual citizen who works as a truck driver or restuarant server and you're not some kind of community officer of the state, you won't be issued a CC.

S&W Sigma 9mm, or a Ruger Speed-Six .357 with 2 3/4" barrel (I have my CHL). If no firearms allowed, then a decent-size fixed blade.

There are two kinds of folks out there: prepared ones and targets. It's your choice which you want to be. I'm not trying to be unkind, just a pragmatic thought based upon my past experiences.

Ron

Hey Leanwolf! That's a great set-up! I like that Ruana knife!
