So I asked my wife today, brown with red, is that acceptable in a fashion sense? I can’t keep up with those stupid rules and she’s pretty in tune. “Sure” she replied. It looks so off to me I thought surely it violated something there. Oh well. (Maybe after Labor Day it’s not allowed.)

So I realize it’s just not a pleasing combo to my eye. Like those brown leather hiking boots with red laces…I never understood that.

Pretty sure I've seen that sort of fashion sense in old '60s Cowboy movies.

I do love me some good Westerns though - so Hemlock it is.

I don't think Bill would ever put the GEC name on a knife he honestly thought was ugly!
I do think that he's keenly aware of how it's probably going to come out, and I believe he's got a good idea of what knife people like.

Also it might not be good... but it might be not not good.

I went from chesnut which didn't stand a chance to copperhead, I hope that will be the final choice.

Out of honesty for the people who manage this project (and whom I thank for their work) I prefer to say that I'm not sure I'll stay in the game with the hemlock choice. This is to be in line with Charlie's introduction on this topic.

I think Bill has an idea too, and is why he thought it prudent to make sure people knew it would be dark.

The lack of contrast IMO is just ... plain boring. I wasn't a red voter but would much prefer red over plain like the hemlock shows. The copperhead has good contrast and those saying "it's been done" ... there is a reason it has. It makes for a sharp knife.

And those that say you can get copperhead ... how many here can post a picture that they actually have a copperhead? It's not that simple.

My wife wanted our wedding colors to be brown(chocolate brown) and red. I said whatever. Her sister said yuck. It all turned really nice. Who knew those colors would work well when you use the correct shades.

This has been a lot of fun. Thank you Charlie waynorth for making it happen. We will be getting a great knife because of your generous spirit. Would GEC be willing to put your Waynorth Cutlery stamp on the back of the tang if that is even possible?

To end on a light note, here is where we stand.

On one hand, we have the Copperhead on top in the bag. No more need be said to those with eyes.

On the other hand, we could have the
Hemlock in the middle, or we might get the Hemlock at the bottom! Who the hell knows!! But, unless something dramatic happens, it looks like our bus has been hijacked. Wake up America, and elsewhere! Especially those of you voting for the other colors. Can we at least tighten up the votes to make it more exciting?

Charlie, if Hemlock wins, please ask Bill Howard to make whatever adjustments to the recipe necessary for the scales to POP with some colors and variations visible to the naked eye while viewed indoors without a spotlight!! The two of you have forgotten more than the rest of us will ever know. In other words, please save us from ourselves. Thanks again my friend.

Finally, here’s to Kenny, better know as One Armed Blade Nut. He would have loved this, because it was WAR, (in a friendly way.) He also probably would have voted for the Ginger. You are missed Kenny.

I don't know... I wouldn't care what I looked like if I could play guitar as well as Slash.

(Also, as an aside, my wife is a brunette - been together almost 20 years now. Hair isn't the predominate factor in this but is sure doesn't hurt anything )

I don't want to sound like I'm putting down other folks' preferences, but to my sense of aesthetics, the copperhead vs hemlock debate feels like comparing these two knives. The Old Timer on the left is a classic, with that high contrast that proponents of copperhead seem to love. The one on the right is redder, deeper, more subtle, and far more interesting to me. I feel very strongly that the possibility of hemlock is far more attractive, but I love the look of Old Timer delrin too, so copperhead would be fine.

I agree with you 100%....copperhead is nothing I recognize. Hemlock is an iconic guitarist for a HOF rock band!

That mock up pic is a good bit of campaigning, because it looks terrible. Copperhead would have much more contrast and ZAZ!

There’s mulch and then there’s mulch - based on my previous experiments, I believe you can dress it up considerably with a good knife. Examples below. OH
