That looks good to me. (unless sawcut white makes a miraculous comeback)

Well, whichever color wins, keep it in the dark then LOL
I intend to keep mine in my pocket (from time to time). It's pretty dark in there too.
Beside, I didn't say that Copperhead looked bad or anything ... just what it MIGHT look like in the same lighting.

Whichever color wins, I'll be getting a forum knife ... and prolly be pretty dang happy regardless ... GEC and all :)
... I can't say the same for Hemlock's most vocal antagonist in this discussion. If Hemlock wins, I'd be shocked if they bought a forum knife.
Maybe an aftermarket attempt when they see what the Hemlock Forum Knife looks like. Dunno

My favorite quote in the entire thread, made me laugh out loud! It reminded me of George Gobel's humor (look him up if you're too young!).

Right now, a purple knife is winning in a brown poll.

I think whatever happens in the poll, we will end up with a terrific knife. Bill's traditional sensibility would not allow it to be otherwise.

Indeed, I was playing at mischief with that statement. Darren's mockups are terrific, and that post I made was not intended to disparage his efforts, though I see how it came across that way. Apologies, Darren. The Hemlock mockup looks like a fine knife and as I've stated before, I think it'll be terrific either way. I'm just rooting for my team, as it were.

No offense taken guys...but I am just working with what I have seen and my experience shaping dyed bone. If I go by the pictures I've seen of hemlock jigged bone, maybe it will end up a little more like this (basically black everywhere except near the bolsters and some edges.

But if I go with my gut feel, based on how sawcut is shaped compared to jigged bone...I still think it will turn out more like my first attempt.

I honestly don't know how else to mock this up...maybe that is a good thing and we will all be surprised by the results. I trust Bill and his team.

Thank you for the honesty and for being a good sport sir. You could have rightfully nicked me for altering your rendition but you didn't (and I didn't disparage the alteration). Class

Taken this very morn on the eve of decision...in natural light....I simply plonked them down ...no quarter given or taken by either....OK its antique amber NOT actual Copperhead.....seems like a different name to discern between the two is the only way to tell them apart...
So...who would rather go to the gaudy Copperhead carnival sideshow with a greasy hotdog and deep fried cheese on a stick? ...and who would visit the understated, classy, stately, Art Gallery where a calming amble through a darkened hallway leads to a pleasing sublety of deep lesther lounge chairs and cigar box undertones....?

It's usually not the color (except maybe something like glitter gold) that makes a knife sit on the dealer shelves, it's the pattern. I know a lot of you love the stockman, but 3 blade knives aren't exactly the bees knees and the 12 has always been milquetoast. Those Hemlock Green 47's disappeared in a heartbeat because people loved the pattern, the jigging was good and the color was awesome. Hemlock Green has been pretty consistent, colorwise, every time I've seen it.

Gaudy Copperhead please and don’t skimp on the mustard!

Prepare to be shocked B BrotherJim . I’ll certainly buy a Hemlock Sawcut Barlow. My hope is that it is spectacular and that it has a beautiful reddish mahogany base with lighter complimentary colors along the edges and near the bolster shooting off in every direction. I want it to be great, and I can understand that it might very well be. No one will be happier than me if it is a home run. I also can understand through reason and common sense that it might just be mostly black and monotone. I don’t believe only the things I want to believe. You cannot know that Darren’s mock ups are wrong or that Bill Howard did not mean what he said. Everyone is entitled to all of the information they can get in making a decision, and everyone is entitled to express their opinion.

It was interesting to read that only 340 knives, all of them Barlows, have been made in Sawcut Copperhead and none since 2016. They have become collectors items of the highest order. They are virtually unobtainable, but all we have to do to get one is vote for it.

That hemlock in the mock up kind of looks like that black cherry to me? I'm still undecided but either choice will be a winner.

That's a great photo Meako. The dark brew 83s seem to be very close to hemlock from what I have seen so far. Can't wait to get mine for a side by side photo!

But is this knife supposed to be a collectors item? I thought it was supposed to be a unique, fun knife for the bladeforums crowd. Something different just for us. Not just to sit in a safe and marvel at how much it might be worth based on previous knives.

I may have missed it somewhere as I was slightly late to the party, but is it for sure a nail nick on the blade or is there a possibility of a long pull?

Has GEC ever even done a long pull except for their Northfield UN-X-LD line? ... 'cause I don't know
I think a long pull would look nicest on the big 86 ... especially with a Fancy Bolster (in the works)
