Seller and Buyers - Read This

It seems to me that there's a clear voice in this thread saying that the rules changes are generally fine except for the one disallowing discussion of the knives.Pposter after poster has come on to request that discussion remain open between makers and collectors.

I don't think it's too much to ask here. Discussion has always remained civil. It is a part of the makers sale area and should continue be allowed. The general populace seem to be very much in favor of keeping that part open.

It would be a shame to not be able to get feedback from other buyers and makers on items in the KnifeMaker's Market: Knives & More for Sale area. Some of these discussion have influenced my purchases.

Just to make myself clear-
I am not doing this because any one person was misbehaving. It was because the procedures of the For Sale forums was going downhill fast. If it wasn't straightened out soon, it would become useless as well as a subject for argument and complaint.

I would suggest that anyone considering selling a knife make a thread in the Gallery, or a suitable forum, and link that thread to the For Sale thread with a note -"For sale here". The For Sale thread could have a link to the gallery thread where people can, and are encouraged to, make comments pro and con. That link could be labeled - "Comments welcome here".This will solve most all the problems.

people, they are serious about the "compliment" type posts.
I was given an infration for posting a "compliment" on a seller's
for sale post. I wondered to myself "wtf did i do wrong?" i can
understand the whole clutter thing but come on. The same day i got
the infraction, i saw "compliments" a plenty as well as "warnings"
a plenty from the mods. I'll be the example, it doesn't bother me, but
be consistent.. I just send my compliments via pm now!:d

i got the infraction to, thats what i say wtf?

Hi Stacy , 1st. I'm not trying to be rude here or a butthead but does this mean other suggestions or Ideas will not be looked into .

Chatting in THIS area is NOT cheating. It is all about knife makers and collectors encouraging good work and getting more. It's about community.

In the end, I find this "no chat" rule extremely heavy handed, a direct 180 from the spirit of the makers for sale section and the makers section in general, and an out-right shame.

Much respect to Stacy and Esav, but I'm also in agreement with the spirit of the above post.

I understand that the for sale section has been cluttered with commentary as of late, and perhaps a sticky and numerous 1 point infractions can clear that up a bit, but I think that -- for the most part -- this is not the result of makers and their friends trying to circumvent the 72 hr bump rule.

Every time I've posted a knife for sale, I could only attach 4, or is it 5, pictures in that post. In order to properly show a knife, at least that many pictures are needed. If I were to post 2 or 3 knives for sale in one post, certainly more than 4 or 5 pictures would be needed to display the knives. Or, have I somehow got this wrong, and a guy can post numerious, multiple pictures in one post? Eight, Ten? Sign me confused...

Dave

Keep in mind, Stacy and I are trying to explain the rules. They are Spark's rules (and he does listen to suggestions) but we are in no position o change any of them ourselves.

That is correct; only five attachments are allowed per post.

If you are looking to sell multiple knives in a new thread, you will be limited to posting five attachments in the initial posting. Then, as long as they are included in whatever sort of reply you choose to post (bump, questions answered, etc...) five more 72+ hours after the last post in your thread.

The suggestion that I imagine you will hear will be something along the lines of, "Make a post in the gallery subforum and post all the pictures you want. Offer some generic teaser photos in your for-sale post and with them, provide a link to your gallery posting."

Perhaps one compromise that can be considered is to allow posters to immediately follow up their initial post with replies to show more pictures and show more pictures only. Say... a ten minute grace period? That would allow people to post as many photos as they feel necessary, yet not allow for honest-to-goodness thread bumping.

Fair enough Esav and thank you and Stacy for your work and help here . I'm old and really like easy :D

I am completely guilty of using this area as a cheering section for the work of many of the sellers. Sorry, I didn't realize I was not following the rules - and never thought to check - just followed the routine of the threads. Realize now that that's the problem. Sorry.

Having said that I must also say that I will sorely miss the fun of the camaraderie & enthusiasm that seems to develop as we -buyers & sellers alike - discover new work & express our support & respect for the talents & successes of others. It's a great aspect of the community of Bladeforums. Just looking at pictures ain't gonna' be the same. As I don't need to manage this sight I don't really know how the issues that the moderators have raised encumber the forum, but I accept that they do. Still, I would like to add my voice to those previously expressed that perhaps the rules can be modified to allow for direct feedback. I guess I don't get out enough, but such interaction really has made visiting the knifemaker's for sale area worth the habit that I've developed of visiting nearly every day. Oh well... bye for now my new knifemaker friends. I guess you'll have to look for my e-mails. :(

1. What I'm looking at is, when you've got a knife done, post it in the Gallery so we can see what kind of work you do, whether or not it's going to be for sale here. Post 5 pics in the first post, 5 more in post #2, and so on.

2. When you post for sale, you can certainly post the same way, 2 or 3 posts one after another within a few minutes, You won't get called on the 72 hour rule, because they are all part of the original offering.

You don't have to post the same pics you have in your Gallery thread because you can add to your sale thread, "See Gallery thread at http://www.XXXX.com".

Don't do it the other way, though. Don't post sale links in a Gallery or other discussion thread.

So that very knife in the gallery is For Sale here on the very same site and we can NOT say it is For Sale?
That would make things weird????:confused::rolleyes:

It is a slippery slope when we start mentioning "sale" in a discussion forum. I have come across discussion threads where someone asked how much izzit and someone else asked can I buy it and the poster said no, but you can go to Jack's Website he sells them.

What do I do then, give everyone infractions or take the whole thread offline? ... after the horse slipped out of the stable ...

No - I would keep the comments in the Makers area and let them be able to lock and continue to manage their own threads???

Please. - Thanks for any help?

I know it's Sparks house......

But what if we took a vote of Makers that sale here???

They are Spark's rules (and he does listen to suggestions)

Okay. Here's a few suggestions.

Additional posts by the seller should be permitted if he is adding pics or reducing the price.

Constructive commentary or worthwhile questions by potential buyers should also be permitted. ESPECIALLY if this is a handmade custom knife.

I think the whole spirit in which these new rules are being viewed is skewed. I appreciate that the mods have a hard and thankless job, however I think the rules need to be tailored to each individual section eg. Makers for sale, For Sale by individuals etc...
I agree that problems were getting out of hand in some of the For Sale threads, but have always found the makers for sale section to be more of a community, with encouragement and honest critique. To insinuate that someones honest compliment is a devious method to bump seems extreme. All I ask is that if you see it aint broke, dont try to regulate it to fix itself( I speak only of the Makers for sale section)

100% agreed . im not a knife maker but i buy knives from makers here. some of these rules are bs . to comment on someones work is not a free bump in my book. and id like for prices to stay in threads instead of saying sold .

In my opinion, for sale threads should always appear in the reverse order that they were created. Bumping (changing the post order) shouldn't be possible.
