Selling of GEC SFO's. How to do it fairly?

Yep, this time around it was a huge screw-up by CK... with something like a SFO that is so highly sought after more care must be taken with your customers. I bet you this doesn't happen again...

People are human, mistakes happen. What matters most is what you do after the screw-up. In this case, Mike communicated it as quickly as possible, owned up to his error and apologized multiple times, and did his best to make it right. What more can you ask for?

I'm not saying people can't be human... I'm just calling it for what it was, a pretty big eff up. Apologies are great and all and I certainly believe Mike feels bad. The issue I have is it sounds like communication was poor between Mike and Rob. That and Mike was trying to drop a SFO release at 10:30 (?) at night whilst having game night with family... Maybe that was a mistake too, I don't know but not a good time for a release anyhow. Water under the bridge now... hopefully those who missed today get one when KSF drops theirs.

The Latham's bend over backwards for us customers. Mistakes happen, that's life. If customers continue to complain about a system, that for the most part works as it was designed, I'm afraid Mike will go the other route and simply throw them all up for sale all at once. Then you will have a few people buying all of the SFOs. Can you imagine what that would do to the secondary market price? At the end of the day, you have to accept that it's just a knife.

It's probably best that everyone wishing to discuss the early reserve system, continue the conversation in the appropriate thread HERE. We don't need this one locked.

I'm a CK customer and not an Apostle customer so I'm going to disagree with the way this mistake was resolved.

I like the early reserve system over an announced release time even though last night was the first time it worked in my favor.

Yes, we all make mistakes and this is just a knife but this is doubly frustrating since I NEVER get in on a SFO. This is the only place to voice my frustration since none of my friends have any interest in hearing anything about yet another knife!

Well said Daniel !!! I am more than happy to be able to work with Mike's system . At least I am on standby and not locked out.
These 74's will be some very nice ones to have . If I get one , that will be fine . If not , I will still sleep . There will be the new Congress 13's coming sometime to a dealer near us too .

Purely a guess here, but it looked like about 500-550 . A whole run with just one cover option. Trying to make enough for everyone is my guess.

That's what I was thinking. I heard somebody say around 250-300 but I was thinking it would probably be more like 500. The pin also says "A Barlow in Every Pocket". :D

Mike's system works great. Only obstacle was...me. :o

I got to the page on time.
Used autofill for my name & email.
Then, I immediately clicked the...wrong button. :thumbdn:

It dawned on me after not receiving a conformation email, that I must've clicked on the 'LOAD' instead of the 'SUBMIT' button. Too late by that time, haha. Gotta just laugh at yourself sometimes.

Did you know you can submit both reservations simultaneously?

Yup. I refreshed the page and bone was open but ebony was still locked. Knowing they would go extremely quickly i grabbed the bone rather than risk waiting, then immediately went back to try to get the ebony.

Every second counts. :)

The Early Reserve really helps by knowing what quantities of each to order; but I will definitely do it differently next time. Either a free for all or everyone goes to the standby list automatically.

Personally i like your system. Its hard to find anywhere that does the early reserve. Thank you for doing this mike. Im sorry this was a bad expierence. I dont blame you or anyone else i just dont understand why more knives arent made especially considering the popularity of the tc barlows. If there is anyone to be upset with its not you. Imho and ymmv

I would also like to chime in, in a positive way. I've had very good luck with my reserves and I've enjoyed the thrill of the hunt. I like the reserve system and I hope it stays in place.

Talk about having it down to a split second. There couldn't have been more than 3/4 of second between them opening up - and you were #1 on the bone.....

Yes, that is a bit crazy and possibly a bit unlucky... I was in on an early refresh and both were available, both covers I got in on "ok". Makes me curious what number I was on each cover...

My luck is such that if I had reloaded the page, my browser would have crapped out and I would have missed both. Happy to get one, if I'm heartbroken over the ebony I'll likely be able to find a trading partner.

Always wondered what # I was on these reserves... Now that I know I was first, I feel like I should get a trophy or certificate or something with my knife! :)
