Selling of GEC SFO's. How to do it fairly?

I've never once managed to get in on a TC Barlow early reserve. They just go too quickly. But you know what? I have gotten in on other early reserves, that allowed me to get my hands on knives that I wouldnt have otherwise been able to. So it's all good. I haven't fooled myself into thinking that I'm somehow entitled to every knife released. If I manage to grab a few along the way, then I'm bettered by the early reserve system.

When all is said and done, as I view my GEC collection, I am absurdly thankful for Mike's effort and fairness on these matters. You will never hear me utter a single complaint. Not in a million years.

so no more of that yes, maybe, sure?

I'm not positive but I think that's all staying the same. I think the only thing that changed is how you're notified. For example you put in a "sure" request prior to a knife release. The old system would send you an email only, when the knife was ready to purchase. With the new alert system you will get an email and text if you set up an account with the app. Correct me if I'm wrong. But that's how I understood the message

Edited to add:

It's comical to see how many folks that posted in this thread before the delivery date, have now listed their 77s in the exchange for $100 - $200 more than what they paid. Don't get me wrong, it's a free country. But some of these same people are the ones crying about the system and not getting a chance to buy early reserves due to flippers.

I don't flip knives for profit but I don't care if others do. There hasn't been a knife made to date that I can't live without so I don't pay inflated prices for knives that will just get used. That being said, some folks will and that's fine to. What I have a problem with is the blatant hypocrisy. Either stop flipping knives for profit or stop complaining about a system that allows flipping knives for profit. Your post/thread history is just as easily viewed as anyone elses. Rant over.

Agreed completely. I spy a couple hypocrite flippers on here seem to have come to hideout on the porch
Not just market value (capitalism is fair and well by me) but blatant hypocrites trying to milk profit with price drops when they couldn't get the most out of the knife.
You know who you are~

No, it is staying exactly the same. The alert system is only to notify folks when something has been added to the Early Reserve system. It was just costing me a little shy of $50 every time I issued the alert on the old system and I am looking to eliminate most of that cost.

Ah ok. Makes sense.

Ok just a few questions for clarification... I got the old text alert today and one minute later I got the new system text alert that a new knife was added to the early reserve. Within two minutes of that I was putting in my information and selected Sure. Within another two minutes, total of 5 minutes from the original text I recieved and email that said I was on standby. Question 1 - Did they really go that quickly or is everyone on standby? Question 2 - Will there now be an alert of some kind that will notify me that I made the short list so to speak and can now pay for the knife?

I should have added to my previous post that I'm new to the early reserve system and have not been following GEC or traditional knives long enough to experience a Barlow release.

I had a reply email within two minutes of my text. I was lightning quick and I got a standby i did hear of at least one person getting an ok.

It may be that he limited the oks and the rest standby so he didn't have another situation of turning people away that got an ok. Will find out as we get closer

If not its just a knife.

The Early Reserve had 40 knives plugged into it; which is the number Charlie felt comfortable. In a bit over one minute the system was in standby. If you are standby, you were not one of the first 40 to click "submit". I personally received both text (old and new) within 2 seconds of each other.

I didn't get any txt's, but I did get an email within a few minutes. Unfortunately, I am only standby for the #15 Barlow :(

My email came a minute or two after my text, but I signed up for both and JUMPED when the text came. I was lucky enough to get a sure/ok reserve.

Sorry, I DID receive the txt that there was a new knife added. But only from the new system. I had to wait until I got to a red light before I could jump on it as I was driving to work.

Intresting - I got the text from the old system and not the new system. I was surprised because I signed up for the new system through the Facebook post and was party to testing the system for timing of announces.
I discovered that the 'testing' list is not, in fact, part of the Reserve notification group... I had to re-sign up through the web page to be in the correct group.

So, if you think you are in the correct group, but joined the original test, you need to re-join through CK's web page.

I was a little slower on the draw this time and got standby. Was filling up with gas so I had to hop to the webpage on the phone so it was a slot slower than pc and my mad typing skills

Must be getting slower at the old age of 35

Still like me some early reserve system. Don't change a thing

For the record, I got two texts simultaneously. One saying it's the first alert of the new system, the other saying it's the last alert of the old system.

I've already bought too much this year, but went to look just out of curiosity. It takes me a minute to get the computer machine cranked up, and I possibly could have gotten on standby, but they did go quick.

I really do appreciate the system as it is. There may be an advantage to those who are at a computer all day, but that is true no matter what system is in place, and for regular non-TC runs, there's time to think before a purchase.

I was lucky to be home when I got the texts - both within seconds. Early Reserve page showed 2 green blocks when I submitted my "sure". The email came a few seconds later. A refresh of the Early Reserve page showed all 4 blocks to be red, with the (!). This all happened within about a minute. I guess with only 40 knives, and apparently a number of many more than that of us ready to jump on one, makes them go away like the first rain drop on a hot sidewalk.

I think the Early Reserve that Mike has is a fair system and works well. I was very lucky this time to get in on one of the TC's...if all goes well it will be my first. Wasn't so lucky back in May when I got the text for the 14 TC Barlow. That day I was away, and couldn't load the pages fast enough in my ipad.

Thank you everyone for sharing your experiences. This is my first time going through the process and it seems pretty straight forward.

I have gotten lucky with the early system in the past and I have also been too slow for certain releases. That being said, I still think it is the best system out there and I would not change a thing about it.

I had gotten both message and texts about the TC clips within seconds of each other as my phone indicated, which means the system works fine. However I was in the gym at the moment they had arrived and that is another matter. c'est la vie

I thought about this more and I think it's a phone setting thing. Most phones don't receive email in realtime. They refresh every 5, 10, or 15 minutes, etc, to conserve battery life.
