September 2022 Buck of the Month 112 Ranger Pro with Blk ckote s30V clip, Blk G10 scales, AL frame

Hard pass.

Cerakote has no business being on a knife blade, unless the knife’s only purpose is to sit in a display box. I’ll die on that hill, lol.
I agree with you, but bought the recent 830 BOTM anyway. I've used it a few times and decided it doesn't matter as far as usage goes, or at least not much, and not too me. My preference is still uncoated blades, but I wouldn't die on that hill anymore. I'll be over on the next hill sipping an iced tea jkam.gif
:D

I’m going to pass, I already have the botm 112 Koa wood aluminum frame with s45vn blade and I like it much better. I have the botm 112 scalloped cocobolo / NS frame with s35vn blade one of my favorite and a custom shop 112 brass and walnut with clip s30v blade and a 112 slim select so I’m good with 112s. I actually prefer the 110 size and I can get the sport models for a lot less and basically the same knife only different color.

Im still off work on short term disability and looking at another 4-6 weeks till the blood clot is dissolved and they can install a pacemaker and revert my heart rhythm to normal. Until then I’m on very limited income and budget.

I had to get one. I like the straight clip on this one and the lightweight frame is nice too. Hate the thumbstuds though lol.
I was almost kind of a little leery of the studs too, but I have another small Buck and a couple of Benchmades with them, and they’re fun to fidget with. On the small Buck (a Nobleman), the action is a little too ‘hydraulic’ to be flickable - it’s more just pushing the blade all the way open by the stud, but it’s still easy (and fun) enough that I don’t have a problem with it. I’m wondering if the action on the 112’s with studs is similar.

Yeah, I can sorta agree, yet I like that it's on the froe and axe.

You just reminded me that I need to strip my Froe!

I don’t mind Cerakote on the Froe and hatchet, I just don’t really see the point when it flakes off when you sneeze in it’s general direction. I just wish Buck’s DLC (or whatever used to be on the Alaskan Guide series) was still a thing. I have an unbadged AG 119 that I’ve used pretty heavily and it still looks more or less new.

I’ll definitely still buy a knife that has a Cerakoted blade, I just have to like nearly every other aspect of the knife…. And then I media blast the blade, lol. I used a Cerakoted 104 whole camping awhile back. I shaved down some sticks for marshmallows, and later cut up some potatoes. A giant chunk of Cerakote flaked off into the potatoes and kind of grossed me out. Not really trying to flavor my home fries with ceramic, lol.

David Meier (Brother) flagged me a few minutes ago and I got on Bucks website right away to order one BEFORE they were gone..Then I seen there was 1,000 in the run and figured I had at least a few minutes lol! I have been looking at the Web special 112 with the coated blade for a while now and so added one to the cart along with a 6" blade fishing knife for 10 bucks . I have always liked the Take-Apart 112's and so this was not a hard decision. I too think a thousand is a bit much for a BOTM but at least the price was not to bad. The Koa BOTM WAS overpriced and I was going to pass on it in protest. I do have one of them but hav you noticed the flippers are not having a lot of luck with that one?

I like the looks of it.

I bought the July 2020 BOTM take apart aluminum frame 112.
Nice knife, but it doesn't even fit in the average 112 leather sheath, as the frame is bigger.
Are the newer aluminum take apart knives a larger frame also, or are they now the same size frame as a standard 112?

I haven't purchased any of the newer take-apart knives, figuring, what's the point of a lighter knife if it's bigger.

Thanks.
🤔
I have a couple of the take-apart 112s and they fit nicely in the distressed leather sheaths (brown and black versions).

Ok, so it's the 112's 50th. But two 112 BOTM this year plus ten or eleven other models of the 112 available not including the multiple color options or custom shop???

Thanks Jeff.
I think I may have read somewhere that the frame on the July 2020 take-apart 112 was bigger due to the screws. (I've never really liked that knife due to the bigger frame).

I just am unsure that the take-apart knives built since are also larger, or are now the same size frame as the standard 112.

Aren't the distressed sheaths Made in USA?
I know the USA made sheaths are bigger.

I will check out my stash of distressed sheaths when I get home on Friday and get back to you on that. 👍

Well..it IS the 50th for the 112 so we would expect Buck to feature the 112. I consider this more of a spear point than a clip and the aluminum frame 112's have all fit in the shieth's I have tried to put them in. I'm surprised Buck increased the limit you can order if in fact that is true. It is a cool looking 112! In one of the pictures on Bucks website it almost looks like a smiley face on the clip side..

Thought I would see if it would work. I put 10 in the Cart, no issues. I put 11 in the Cart and it came back with "you are only allowed to order a maximum of 10".

Feels like the increased quantity (1000), with the increase in maximum allowed to order (10) is catering to the flippers (Insert your Boooo ! VS Yay ! here). Double the quantity made and upped the amount that can be ordered by 3 fold. If these all sell out fast, I predict a 2000 run of something in 2023 (I have been predicting that since they upped the quantity to 500).

As a business, Buck is here to make a buck so I think the plan going forward is, if they buy them all, make more next time (Less than 400 to 500 to 750 to 1000 . . . .). But I feel that the original thought behind the BOTM was to make unique, exclusive, hard to acquire knives that collectors were rewarded with (if you were lucky enough to get one) by keeping "in touch" month to month to see what Buck was selling.

Now it takes hours to days to months (on the rare occasion) for the knives to sell out. And some of the knives have lacked originality / are not that different from the regular production. Not very exciting anymore.

When I first read the text and saw the knife I was excited

special 50th anniversary pad print

take apart with different colored / material insert

Now, no special 50th anniversary pad print. And why is there not a 50th Anniversary on the tang or emblem on the handle. These features would have taken this knife to the level I think the BOTM should be at. And 1000 made !, don't get me started : )
