• Happy Thanksgiving to all of you! I hope that you all have something to be grateful for this year and for many years to come
  • America has reached 250 years, and I am grateful to be here, in the best country in the world. Thank every one of you who helps make this country a better place, those who have gone before and risked it all, and those who've paid the ultimate price to make the United States what we are today.

Happy Birthday America! Let Freedom Ring for all time!

September TOTM: German knives!

Here is a boring, worn old Boker Alemania that was in my paternal grandfather's effects when he died at the age of 94. He was born a few days before Custer died. He was a hunter and trapper by trade. This knife was the last of probably over 2000 knives that he WORE OUT. He made or improvised a lot of them himself. If confronted with the idea of collecting knives, he would be astonished.

Reminds me of the stories and pictures when I was young and the things passed down. Those men (and women) were something. Thank you Tonjgueriver.

The knife I own that best fits this category is my Hartkopf that I picked up for a song last year. I have a very hard time opening the main (locking) blade, and don't use a corkscrew much as my wife has an intolerance to alcohol but I loved its utility (knife, saw and corkscrew- all bases covered in the woods), and the use it got turning the master blade into a toothpick!

If anybody knows what the original blade shape was I would appreciate a pic/link.

Cuts like a Kris......It would have been a spear blade like the one in this Weidmannsheil......

All of these are circa WWI. You can see the last one has the more modern corkscrew.

These are very solid working knives. The larger one is 4 1/4" without the bale.

Beautiful knives. I especially like the corkscrew knives Roland and Tim. This one is in keeping with the Octoberfest theme.

Roland I would like to borrow your time machine to pick up a few of those for myself :D, really pretty knives.

Thanks p&g. They are part of a collection that came from a family member of an old Solingen knife manufacturer.
