seriously... knife bubble?

I for one won't spend mega-bucks for a knife just because I can. Of all the forums I have frequented where knives were part of the forum theme, or a sub-section of say, a gun forum, I have rarely ever seen a big dollar knife pictured in anything but in a pristine condition. I don't see how one could spend $500 and up for a folder, and then wind up using it for all kinds of cutting duties one may encounter when in the wild. I have a Strider PT that I purchased, but not for $300.00, but for $175.00 from the Navy Exchange...it sees some hardcore use sitting in my safe because I really don't want to trash it, and bought it because it was what I considered a potential investment should I sell it later. I don't believe anyone with these expensive knives really use them as they were purportedly designed and built to do. Prove me wrong by posting your beat up SNG, or your large Sebenza's, or your Hinderer XM-18's in a condition that says I'm used like a tramp trapped on an island with a thousand sailors.

Does a PM2 in earth brown count? Not going to lie, have not been delicate with that guy.

They aren't a sprint run, they are a distributor exclusive like the bento box blue one.

They go for a little more than new but not much.

It's crazy for sure in Knifeland but that holds true for everywhere.
Yes, I paid too much for some of my knives but where I am now in my life, I'd never drop money like that again. Never.
No regrets. I have some fine knives. But I got sucked in and it's a good time to get out.
I'm just as happy With my KA-BAR Lightweight folder in my pocket as I am with my Leu Bluephin.
Good thread, Chris and BF Gang.

I've posted shots of my XM before in regards to this very topic. Its not trashed but its got plenty of marks to prove its use. I'll see if I can dig up those pictures. I don't have my XM with me at the moment to take new ones

I have bought high end stuff before and let them just sit. I won't buy anything I won't use anymore.

I was going to start a thread & rant about this but im glad you did.I do not care about backlash because i am fed up with these overpriced knives.this latest trend of knives going for up to triple their normal price is absolutely stupid ! i am so turned off by it right now. 1200 for a zt888;good so it will sit in everyones safe;what good is that ?, i dont care how limited it is. shirogorovs were about 450-500.00 they are 1200 too. they are nice but not 1200$ nice . i have one i bought at 400 & i would never spend 12 for it.the el patron with acid washed blade & handle for 700+ is just as insane.1,000.00 for a crusader forge; i have one i got for 500.00 & its a brick, not very carriable although it is cool, not 1,000.00 cool.I know these knives are well made, but i cannot justify their price. that goes for the curtiss f3 as well. anyone who wants to spend this kind of money on these knives,go ahead doesnt bother me. its a joke. ive seen more threads on "is the sebenza worth it" then i can count. how come no one bats an eye at a 1200.00 shirogorov, or an 800.00 curtiss ? are they worth it? not to me at that price. ill tell you this; the sebenza & umnumzaan is a bargain compared to this nonsense.I hope this bubble bursts; ive been collecting for 30 years & never saw anything like this .ill take a Brian Tighe custom for 600 over an 888 any day. for 1200.00 ill wait for an RJ Martin modulator or q36. thats where my stand is on this.Jump on the overpriced bandwagon, numskulls, ill just sit back & laugh!:barf:

that is because they are idiots. A knife is a tool. Would you bay $6000 for a blinged out hammer? Or a pimped out be-jeweled pair of needle nose pliers?

ZT's excellent 0560 were in short supply a year ago, and if you shopped, you could score one for less than the $260 retail. They can be scooped for less than $200 new now, but many 1000's were made.

I've been buying some M390 Knifes, and the runs in this steel are more limited, and Prices do suck a little. For some of the nice customs, I'm willing to wait for them, I'd love a Shirogorov and an RJ Martin!!! It sucks a little I can't buy on an impluse.

ZT makes some specials too, at least most of them they have a good run, and they can be had for less than retail :) 1 year ago, I was thinking I'd like a collection of Para 2's in all the steels, I was crushed, some steels are very expensive, I vow'ed to myself to just buy current releases, and not chase the crazy Prices, it was a good thing, I've migrated to the Military models.

Maybe an Umnumzaan is next and another strider, just waiting for the right ones!!

If finding your grail was easy, how fun would that be,lol, but do to pricing, my s90v collection is very sparce :(

I always find it disturbing how many people throw around the word overpriced. Something, by the very definition of the word, is only overpriced if it doesn't sell. Just because you can't afford it or can't justify it doesn't make it overpriced. Expensive? Sure. Overpriced? Not necessarily. It's not worth being butthurt and whining on the forums about others who are willing to spend more than you to feed their collection for the very most interesting knives. That is just life folks. Like it or lump it...

I sold off all my PM2's with the exception of my factory orange PM2's. I had an ad on Armslist that is over 3 months old, and I still get people looking for my PM's, but when I reply they are sold except for the orange ones, I've had people offer upwards of $275 for them. One persistant chap offered me $325.00 and he'll drive down from Richmond to get it. I'm tempted, but in reality, they'll remain safe queens for now. Yes, people do some crazy chit when it comes to knives that are no longer available.

Jeeze oharal, you are the American version of that guy somewhere in Slovakia....you have a hell of a talent. I could use some custom scales for my Swick's to start with.

It's a fad... In the next couple of years people will go nuts for Adamantium framelocks. :D

Neither have I. Mine even has the collector's number, and came to me in great condition. Instead of flipping for mad cash which I could've done, it now has scuffs on the scales and some scratches on the blade. But I'll be damned if it doesn't take abuse like a champ and look good while doing it. :D

Haha thanks! Let me know if you ever want some work done I'd be glad to work something out.

I was going to post something very similar to this. Well put.
If you go on custom knife dealer sites, you'll see a whole bunch of 'overpriced' knives that have a sold or sale pending annotation. Sure, there are plenty of knives I don't want badly enough to spend the money on but that doesn't mean someone else won't. It's all about how badly you want it. If you won't use it, of course that's your prerogative and another story all together.
