Seriously, What do you do with your knives??

In buying knives, we're looking for the perfect tool, the ultimate "wheel." We keep the old ones for the memories, to relive the mistakes, or to give to our children.

i like knives...i edc either a SAKOHT (for work) or a SAK Harvester (for not work). i had about 30 knives now im down to 5 (not counting the SAKs and machetes which i have 6 of). and im gonna sell three of those 5 and replace them with my ESEE-3. so to answer the OP...i sell them. :)

Some of mine get used regularly - fishing, mountain biking, jungle trekking... that sort of thing. Others like the ones my dad has given me or I have bought in foreign countries over the years stay tucked away and get taken out for a fondle every now and then.

I prefer working knives so usually dont spend huge amounts - I did spend about 400USD on one and then carried it regularly for a while before realising I would be pretty pissed if I lost it in the bush.

For me I just like collecting nice stuff...

I have the same passion for general outdoor gear - again... bikes, fishing gear that sort of thing.

I get the guilts about the needless consumption from time to time and tend to thin out my collections which is ok for me because I dont tend to get attached to stuff...

ESEE is one of those brands though - like me Ive seen a gazillion people that buy one and just have to get more...

The good thing about knives is that whilst Im not super rich I can still have a pretty nice collection of high quality knives...

My Izula II sees daily use either at home doing basic non-kitchen tasks or at the farm doing whatever is needed. The 4 plays in the woods on lunch breaks and the 6 is waiting patiently.

The few knives I've owned before ESEE (maybe 5-6) wait around to get picked up.

Just curious what you do with ALL these knives you hoard in your drawer, closet, safe, or under your bed at mom's house??

whats your point for having all these blades?? What do you use them for??

I have multiple knives and SOME see rotation while others do not, with that in mind I'm curious once again why we need all these knives, I'm talking physical reasons not emotional/mental..

I am waiting on the total collapse of civilization. I will have a steel empire. I may even become a war lord.

I like to carry all mine arround with me

Machete-review-Danny-Trejo-.jpg

Just imagine the world of hurt he would be in if he tripped! Btw, how would he sit down?

But it was an intelligent post. I ask myself that same question all the time: what in the hell are people doing with all these knives they're buying? Killing Somali priates? :D

If only there were a Somali pirate to kill for every knife we own... It'd be like Pirates of the Caribbean, 21st Century Edition.

Must have just gotten back from breaking the land speed record on bike while drink 50 gallons of water an hour.

I tend to gently fondle my knives, while whispering sweet nothings to her. Candle lit dinners and long walks on the beach.

Hi TLD

I get the most use in my kitchen, and then, probably cutting open packages that contain knives.

I always grab my Izula when I am going outdoors, along with one of several JK knives.

I have an assortment because I am what Mr. Glesser refers to as an 'affie' and proud of it.

Best

CID25 hit on a good point for me: a lot of my gear collection built up in pursuit of the "ideal" loadout.

And like others have said, some people get into cars, others into guns, etc. I got into guns and knives (but knife projects are much more affordable).

The "extra" stuff I have...I tend to save. There's the sentimental stuff. There's the "beater" and "tinkering" stuff (testing projects and such). And then I have some gear that will go to friends when they need something.

I could live with the following:
1. a solid EDC folder (Waved Endura)
2. small EDC fixed blade (Izula 2)
3. fixed "field" knife (ESEE 3)
4. a chopper (Ontario 12 machete)

My EDC folder is a box-cutter, letter opener, and "polite" knife (even though the Endura is a lil big for "professional" settings).

My Izula 2 and ESEE 3 get used for everything from bushcraft, kitchen duty, woodworking, etc.

And I do have a bit o training to use any of the above in a defensive manner.

Everything.

Packages, tinder, food, cordage, webbing, screwdriver, MANicures, tick removal, small prybar jobs, hole punch and this is the list that goes on and on my friends some people start listing and not knowing what it was and they'll continuing listing forever just because this is the list that never ends yes it goes on and on my friends some people...

Beauty resides in many forms, utility is one.

Why we in general, and myself in particular, buy and keep guns and knives has very little to do with 'need'.
If'nn you don't understand that my friend, I am not sure I could 'splan it to you.
