Seriously, when is the tacticool thing gonna play itself out?

To me, the more tactical the better. Must have a glass breaker, seat belt cutter, laser pointer with strobe option, some sort of skull and flames design on it, perhaps even an evil clown. Mtech pretty much has nailed it. Honorable mention to Budk also.

You bet cha! :D

I've seen it posted elsewhere in this community, in the for sale section as well as others, so I think this community has members who have purchased this knife, either in the past or currently owning it. What you just said is that buying this knife means you forfeit any protection from shaming by the knife people who wouldn't buy this, which is directly shaming them by saying they should be shamed. Who cares if someone buys this knife? You, apparently. How does purchasing this knife affect you in any way? If people want it, companies will make it, and there's really nothing you can say that will change that part of the economy. The company that made this specializes in making overpriced knives that sell based on the brand, purchasing the one that looks funny doesn't mean any more than purchasing the ones that look less funny and happen to fold.

tl;dr to each their own, the shamers are the problem, not the buyers.

"Lighten up francis" from Bill Murray in that enlisting movie that currently escapes me. Shame on you for being so uptight. Shame shame shame. Shame on you for oppressing the opinion of others. Is this a FORUM? Is that where people express their opinions? Monty python and the wholly Grail come to mind. When king richard seeks assistance from the peasants...

Yes, we should welcome all enthusiasts. Yes, we should poke fun where theres a opportunity. We could discuss the surface tension practicality, alternate uses of such a design, quality of crapmanship, and probability of being laughed at by your peers, or the general population.

Sounds to me like you yourself dont just own one, but got a few as investments. [emoji16] just put it in the display case next to the zombie green w/red splatter one.

I myself have been laughed at in my life. Quite recently even. Sometimes the laugher was right. Admittedly, i often say, "seemed like a good idea at the time." Sometimes the laugher was jealous (Clearly this case,) And maybe even once, my choice was sound, and in the end the laugher turned into the laughee. Regardless of the outcome, each and every one of us should be comfortable enough to hear laughter. Or laugh. Weather its directed at themselves, or others.

Anyway, i guess what im trying to say is, "you can support some of the people some of the time, but not all of the people all of the time."

Not at all the same as far as style. Your hatin on my opinion, just as you claim i am on King, who, is hatin on boats, who is hatin on the marketing of the sawinator.

What I feel for you guys is more pity than hate.. :-)

Some guys just like to drag others down to the mud with them...:)

Bwahahahahahaha

Thank you for your grace. Oh, that was good. My sides hurt

You're welcome but it's even more pitiful that you justify being hurtful with verbal gymnastics.

When you poke fun(denigrate) the preferences of others, you are being hurtful. I dunno how it is in your place but being hurtful is not considered decent in society. As you said, we can take it because we are not children but just the same, the attitude of being hurtful just because you disagree with the taste of someone in the same hobby isn't too decent.

You compare your poking fun at somebody else's taste with my objection to your hurtful attitude? Now that is a pathetic excuse at justifying your bad behavior.

In today's life, we all could use more decency, not less.

You can disagree politely with someone's taste but to ridicule or to shame? Do you regularly call somebody else's wife ugly just to poke fun? That kind of behavior is more comparable to what you are proposing is all right OTOH, both acts are not at all comparable to objecting to rude manners.

A.G. Russell once told me that knife people are some of the nicest people he has ever met.
Knives and nice people. What's not to like?

Wow. And I thought my SEAL knife was a bit over the top. Also, (being a little picky here), the ad labels it as both a "combat knife" but also "an excellent survival knife". Now, from my experience, those two things are pretty different. I think they might want to get a new writer, or at least a dictionary.
A "combat knife" and a "fighting knife" are two different critters. A combat knife get's used for 99% day to day stuff-digging roots out of your ranger grave, opening MRE's, cutting 550...and probably less that 1% (a whole lot less, probably) for fighting. Your ad copy isn't too far off. A fighting knife is just that-for fighting. Not even necessarily dueling another knife, even-it's an antipersonnel scraper.

It's a Wilson Tactical model 25. Wilson Tactical used to be the knife branch of Wilson Combat (custom 1911 pistols). All of their knives were hand made to order.

My model 25 is currently 10.25" OAL (I say currently because I cut off the large lanyard loop that stuck out from the end of the tang), the blade is 5.25" long and almost 1/4" thick. Wilson said the Rockwell hardness was 59c-60c which I believe because while doing some mods I discovered that it's pretty hard.

The handles are canvas micarta, wrapped by me with a strip of bicycle inner tube for enhanced grip.

Wilson Tactical closed shop some years back, which is unfortunate because they offered a variety of nice fixed-blades. Now they produce knives under the name Wilson Combat.

I guess since my knife was made by a company called Wilson Tactical, that makes it EXTRA tactical :D.
I thought it might be a Wilson. Those and the Dustars seem like pretty good rigs (although most of the Dustars are kinda long).

I think if you judge others based on their knife purchases than you are the problem,...
Yup. And there is no apparent shortage of judgmental types poking their heads in this thread.

Different strokes for different folks.

I'll never understand why some people buy modern flippers with pocket clips and terrible blade geometry. That doesn't make either them or me wrong or them or me deserving of shame or ridicule. It just means different strokes for different folks.

The tacti-'carp' fad is not liable to disappear any time soon. It permeates all fields of gear and it sells.

Ever head of "geardos" (rhymes with weirdos). They are all around us. In every professional and recreational field requiring specific task oriented gear. Especially funny when they're Soldiers if FOBs. Geardos are good for the economy and good for new and up and coming gear producers. We all benefit from geardos. My hat is off to them.

I hate to admit this but most of my life all I carried was a Swiss Army knife. I didn't understand the appeal of knives, and I really didn't understand knife owners.
I've got many knives, but I don't hate to admit I carry a SAK daily. I use it more than any other knife I own.

I will not name who made this or what it is called, (though the name is comically bad and can be read from the blade if you have good eyes), in case I might embarrass some poor soul here who paid $300 or more for it.

I did want to share the advertising copy from a major internet retailer that accompanied this knife's picture in my inbox:

"This semi-custom piece, (from a limited run of 250 ever made), by ___________, is one of the most unique and intimidating combat knives we carry. There isn't much that this solid hunk of D2 steel can't hack or slice through, which also makes it an excellent survival knife. The chainsaw-like backwards serrations aren't just there for show, they're devastating upon exit—essentially eviscerating any opponent who has the misfortune of a gut or ventral entry, (hence the name ___________). The textured G10 scales and grooves provide for the superior ergonomics you'll need to properly wield this monster."

Lol. Who is the market for this type of thing, especially coupled to this style of ad copy? There can't be that many 12 year olds with the cash and permission to drop $300 on such an item, yet someone out there buys things like this or its competitors, as it is hardly alone in this niche.

Insights?

Totally hear you. It has turned into a very common sales tactic the past 5 years especially to get people to buy stuff. Not just knives, but firearms as well big time. It is getting a little bit out of control. I remember seeing mossbergs tactical lever action and just shaking my head in disgust

Mossberg-464-SPX-Lever-Action-Rifle-Suppressor-Ready.jpg

I believe in having the right tool for the job and I have no problem with proper "tactical" setups. For knives it is definitely silly as there is no need for a "tactical" knife because there are plenty knives that do the same exact thing or have the same feature but they're not classified as tactical because there really is no reason for it. It has definitely become a click bait sale generating tactic to get people to buy who are into that stuff.... Mall ninjas especially :)
