Shaman sprints - any news?

Bump.

Eventually we will get a Sprint Shaman, patience is a virtue.
Likely to be quite popular too I think.
Micarta scales really would be cool.
Although G10 would be fine.
Xena herself would be proud to carry one.

Hi Gamma,

No one has come forward with any requests at this time. It is an expensive knife to make. The machining of the G-10 is time consuming. If no one comes up with any requests, I'll probably want to try one to my tastes.

For the purposes of discussion (no promises) what "Sprint" combination would you like?

Dear Sal
I would love to see S35 for budget sprint and M390 with CF. I believe that these will sell out in sprint form.in fact you could do it in the PM2 red color from the the M390

Based on my experience,

Cruwear and Natural Canvas would be the best.

I think it would be a waste of M390s strengths to be on such a thick hard use folder, cruwear will take a better edge and hold up better, it's actually not very reactive for a non stainless.

3v on the other hand doesn't have the strength of cruwear, the edge would roll too much

M4 is more aggressive but it isn't as tough cruwear, also it doesn't handle a polished edge as nicely as cruwear and seams to lose the hair popping edge faster with the same edge polish.

4v is tougher then cruwear but it doesn't take the same "bite" to the edge like cruwear at similar finish.

Elmax doesn't have the edge stability of cruwear and is more prone to microchipping with lower angles. Cruwear does not.

So We want Cruwear, great edge performance with polished or toothy edges and great hard use durability that synergizes the Shaman Design.

I still like m390, and Elmax, but I want to actually use the knife with the best steel for the design not what's popular.

That’s an interestI got synopsis.. I have one knife I. Cruwear that I haven’t done anything with yet... you have certainly got my interest and curiosity aroused. New project, sharpen and use. I have had good results with 3v and M4 and have, gotten a good polish on The M4 though. Always ready to learn though.

I'm still for Elmax but I could see Cruwear but I don't know if I have seen much or any Cruwear at the thickness of the Shaman plus I suspect Elmax would be easier to work and thus less costly.

Elmax costs more. It's imported and it cost more per pound then CPM CRUWEAR

CRUWEAR is easier to machine and less finicky to heat treat and is also tougher at higher hardness.

Bark River uses thicker Cruwear for some of there models.

Well I'm not a maker or dealer so wouldn't know those things so thanks and only other thing Elmax still has over Cruwear is unless I'm mistaken and misremembering aspects Elmax is a stainless and Cruwear is not. I am a bit partial to stainless typically.

I like the calls for Cruwear and micarta. I'll throw in, I would like some texturing on the scales too!

I have to say I agree 100% about cruwear being my first choice for shaman sprint. If all this information is true then I will blush every time I sharpen it. Cruwear for the win! Unless Sal decides to stamp “8cr” on a Golden blade(wouldn’t that teach some makers) along with plastic handles.

This is why I love Spyderco... the owner of the company takes time to ask what we would like to see. That's pretty awesome.

While I'm at it... M4 steel with carbon fiber scales.
