The Fuegen is an epitome of "True Art" in modern knifemaking.

I would love to have seen that Walrus ivory before Larry worked his magic on it.

Heck, I would have loved to stand next to him for a few months and watched that blade, as it developed, and spent as long as it would have taken to see him work that walrus ivory. It's really something!

That Walrus is about as good as it gets, except for the core showing. But even that looks great with his carving.

Truly a spectacular art piece!

Yeah that dagger is somethin else. I'm not the biggest fan of carved Walrus handles. I mean obviously this one is absolutely stunning, but I bet that peice of walrus would look great even with out it. This is prob my favorite dagger i've seen of Larry's. Its the ladder pattern done like that and the ivory colors which do it for me.

I mean hell, Don likes it even though the core is showing. :)

EDIT- Just wanna make clear that I love the carved handle and didn't mean to imply I like it less cause its carved.

Steve Johnson makes a clean pocket utility/fighter:

And a clever dual-grind dagger:

(Not sure who's sheath?)

- Nate Christensen does most of Steve's leather and he made the basketweave sheath that goes along w/ the 3-Grind Dagger. Best, Matt

Now that I've recovered from the NYCKS show and the resulting barrage of dealer-purchased knives that came my way, I've had some portfolio shots that deserve appreciation.

Mark Knapp from Fairbanks Alaska. VERY ornate, comfortable, and photogenic knives for the Sportsman.

Greg Shahan and Ken Hurst made a really fine fighter here!

Thanks for viewing!

Coop, is it weird that I get all excited when I see you that you are the latest poster in this thread? Beautiful pics, as usual!

Fixed it. ;) Thanks Blais! I am glad you enjoy my work, too. Much appreciation.

I'm really impressed with The Mark Knapp knives. Nice damascus, very artistic and sophisticated handles and that rattlesnake sheath with the rattler is too cool. Not sure I like the date codes he stamps on them.

Of course the Hanson Dagger is off the charts, and the Shahan/Hurst Bowie seems to get better looking each time I see it.

Here's a few that just left the presses. Something for everyone. :D

Ray L. Smith, MS folder with his trademark blacksmith tail

(I own a near identical one without the carving or engraving. I love it.)

Schuyler Lovestrand and his stag Chute knife.

(He is cautious about allowing that the blade and handle are the same width, but my angle and the substantially smart scales deceive that. I did a shot almost dead on, but it looked 'flat'. Anyone in the know will KNOW that Schyler's work is top-of-the-line and needs little qualification. ;))

Butch Ball and Ken Hurst:

(A large folder, gratifying by every measure. Just the way the client wanted it. CLACK! )

Tom Ferry, MS

It's ALL in the details:

After you contain yourselves, I'll point out that there are no screws corrupting his canvas. Pinned construction. Since Tom is the engraver as well as the maker, if it ever needs service, he can do it all.

That's just the Portfolio shots I've done in the past two weeks. Forget about the 35 dealer shots completed....

That Ferry Folding Dagger is really something else. Coop, you know I love my knives a bit out of the ordinary but this one really floats my boat:cool::thumbup:

Really enjoy seeing your photos Coop.
The RL Smith folder represents a very successful merging of talents.

Like the damascus pattern on the Ball piece and both Ken and Tom's engraving add to these pieces. I was looking closely at Tom Ferry's engraving at the past San Antonio show he's really progressing.

Beautiful Lovestrand. Without being privy to the dimensions, I would say that his mini wilderness is very close to the Loveless pattern and the beautiful stag is also typically to that frequently found on Loveless and Steve Johnson examples.

This isn't a definitive sampling, just a good one. Pieces I have had the pleasure of photographing in the past month or so.

I encourage you to take your time to understand the concept, meaning, execution, and flow of each artist.

Oh, and the knives have to be 'better than average' for this level of work.

All beautiful, however the Kious/Hochstrat really speaks to me.
The slide open compartment is too cool.

That Tom Ferry piece is just spectacular. And my buddy Steve Vanderkolff did a fine job on his dagger - one of his best pieces to date, IMHO.
