Sharpening Becker's or otherwise

looks like good progress. how's it cut?

I haven't been able to do the green and black compounds from a strop yet, but it still slices a piece of paper with ease

its still got a lot of time left in it to get where I want it but overall I am very happy with my progress

I use an edge pro for just about every knife that I own. I also have a spiderco sharpmaker and japanese waterstones, but the edge pro works best for me.

DMT Bench Stone. Usually the fine and extra fine stone. Then finish it by honing with a Wusthof Honing steel from my Wusthof knife block.

For me the best sharpener bar none is the EdgePro Professional. I am leery of belt sanders and power sharpeners because of the risk of losing the temper on the blade. KaBars temper of 1095 is some of the best there is so I'd hate to ruin that. IMHO the EdgePro Professional is just as quick and puts a perfect edge on my blades every time.

Has anyone tried the Wicked Edge sharpener they keep advertising on BF? The technology looks promising especially the correct angles on both sides...

A bud had one, he got a EdgePro Professional after trying mine out. Wicked Edge is a glorified lansky, gatco imitation.

I've looked into the edgepro's before but couldn't afford it at the time.

I might have to look into one after the good reviews.

Not a Becker but it's sharp. Kabar Potbelly, 1/4" 1095. Harbor Freight flyer, kind of in between printer paper and new print. This is after the last time I used it in the field, clearing branches for a trail cam. It hasn't been touched up yet.

Courtesy of Work Sharp Knife and Tool. Convex edge, 20 degrees per side. Time? Less than 10 minutes from setting up the tool to putting it away.

That was for the initial sharpening. It actually takes longer to get the tool out and put it back away than it does to touch up the edge. Since it's a convex edge, you can just strop it too (in the field).

I used 150 grit sandpaper over a piece of leather to convex the edge (just knock the shoulders off, really), then I've only used the Spyderco Doublestuff (mf303, I think, shown earlier in this thread) to keep it pretty poppin' sharp. Very sturdy edge, that way, yet still fine enough to do decent slicing.

I use the spyderco ceramic and a strop loaded with flexcut gold. The flexcut gold is awesome stuff I got it at a wood working store for sharpening carving chisels.

Has anyone tried the Wicked Edge sharpener QUOTE]
I use the WE sharpener. I am very happy with how it works, but it is overpriced. Also, my fault, but I didn't know it was made in China till I got it.

I looked at your pics, had some suggestions.
You are off to a very good start. Since you are not convexing the grind, only the edge, doing it by hand is pretty straight forward. I noticed that your tip edge is more obtuse that the low belly and flat edge. The best way to keep the edge the same thickness it to always keep the knife at the same angle, relative to the sand paper and to work the belly and tip by raising the handle during the sweeping motion across the paper. It takes a bit of practice but keeping the blade-to-paper angle the same is really the key. It also wouldn't hurt to pick up a 1x30 belt sander from harbour freight for $30 and a couple 9 micron belts for a polished finish in about ten seconds if your want to try the power route.

For flat grinds I use an
ep-pro-kit2_899_general.jpg

EdgePro Professional it is by far the very best sharpening system I have found. It quickly effortlessly gives me scary sharp edges, every time.
To convex my blade I use

THE JRE EMS SHARPENING BLOCK SYSTEM. Can't say any system to convex a blade is quick but this is at least simple and straight forward and gives me good results. Of course once my blade is convexed keeping that wicked sharp edge is quick and easy. Couple of swipes on the strop and you're good to go.

Seems you posted your snide insult twice as well. I have been a member here quiet a bit longer than you. Similar response applied to each thread so I posted what was relevant on each just as you posted the same snide insult based on your ASSumtion jerk off.
