Sharpest Knife You've Ever Owned

nib Murray Carter

After four months of use in a commercial kitchen it's still the sharpest knife there.

My sharpest knife is always the last one I've sharpened. Sharpest out of the box was a Coldsteel folder no longer made. It had a full flat grind and was ground very very thin, plus the edge was sharpened correctly.

The sharpest knife I've ever encountered NIB was a Microtech Option II. That one was the only one I truly could have shaved with. The proverbial scary sharp. I've had several that would shave the hairs of my arm, but nothing like the Option II. I lightly scraped it across my face, and just like a razor blade, stubble was shaved clean, no pulling. Only the one swipe, as I was afraid that what Ming65 said could happen would have.

I really need to look into this acute-angled ZDP-189 stuff.

Sharpest out of the box,for me,would have to be any of the Marble's I have accumulated over the years. :D

A close call:

1. ZDP Caly, followed closely by a Buck 110. The Caly would tree-top trim, the Buck almost.

2. Almost any of mine, since I have an Edgepro. The easiest for me is a CS medium Trailguide. Still one of my favorite folders in a great steel.

I would have to say the sharpest one that I bought was a Blackjack (Effingham, Il.) model 1-5. That bastard was scary sharp. :D Anything Mike Stewart makes is fricken sharp as hell. Marbles Knives and now BRK&T.

Belive it or not the sharpest one I ever had was a factory edge on a Buck Folder. I was a teenager, and my dad bought it for me for xmas. I had it open checking it out when I heard something outside. As I turned my head to look, and then looked back at the knife I noticed that I had moved my hands, and shaved the thinest piece of skin from one of my fingers. I mean a THIN slice, not even deep enough to bleed thank God. I had a lot more respect for that knife after that. Unfortunatly for me I later got cought with a bottle of Jack Daniels that I was gonna take on a date with a girl from Tennesee, and the cops took my bottle, and my knife.......Man I miss that knife...

oh yea it was a Buck lite with a camo pouch, when buck first started making the plasic handles...

No doubt that it was one of my Bark Rivers!!!
I think my Huntsman was really psycho-sharp.
I had to keep it apart from my other knives because they were scared $hit-less!!
(Probably one of my most expensive razors ever, yet still build like a little tank!!!)

It sounds like there will be no consensus here. I wonder if anyone has successfully shaved using an out-of-the-box knife?

Best out of box--BM 520 and BM 525 plain edged models followed by a Spyderco Para Military.

Man, that was so funny! :D :D :D (read between the lines) The bottle I understand, but the knife... kind of overkill.

For me the Caly Jr. ZDP189.
