Sharpest knife?

I see a lot of knives factory fresh these days, many times for clips and other mods before the owner of the knife even gets to handle it since they often have them drop shipped to me first. Its kind of nice really because I get the chance to see and handle knives I'd most likely never buy so its kind of similar to the benefits of a pass around.

Anyway, I don't see any knives as sharp as Spydercos when factory fresh. I'd have to rank them number one easily as both sharpest out of the box and sharpened correctly.

Second I'd rank Emerson in a tie with BenchMade I think. Both those come factory sharp ready to go although the Emersons can be a bit obtuse or thick on some of the V grind models. You wouldn't be doing much whittling with an Emerson knife but then again he isn't making them for that so I'm sure the thick edge is by design. Otherwise they are good and sharp though.

Another vote for Bark River on the fixed side. Scary sharp right out of the box!

***COLD STEEL*** Spyderco and Sog are pretty sharp but i found a dull spot right in the middle of a blade and i had to have em get another out which was uniformly sharp.

I would say that Spyderco's are the most cosistantly sharp from the factory, but my Buck Mayo TNT and Strider SnG both came crazy sharp.

Fallkniven U2 is very sharp, the Spyderco ZDP Calypso was also a screamer out of the box but I give the nod to the U2, it's keeping the edge a bit longer
than the Calypso did.
G2

William Henry ZDP stuff is also crazy sharp too! :)

spyderco vg10 models. the S30v ones also, but the vg10 are a little "finer" grit.

nothing else comes close, except maybe my Kershaw ET.

My MSC SLCC is sharper than any knife ive ever handled. It makes most fillet knives look dull. Close second is my microtech ultra tech. But these are both semi custom ( the MSC is full custom) knives with hand gorund blades.

The sharpest knife ive ever had that came out of an actual factory would probaby be my VG-10 spyderco delice with a heat i used to own coming in a close second (cut my finger wide open with it :))

Oh and i didint know where to put this but my nemsis arch-ally is shaving sharp out athe box 2.

And one last thing. For the record id like to state that striders S30V feels somehow different from others. Its got a certain.... i dont evne know what to call it. You guys who own striders know what im talking about.

The Spyderco ZDP Calypso was probably the sharpest I've seen out of the box. It was catching and cutting my thin wispy arm hair above skin level, which I find isn't easy to do for most knives and usually it takes a well stropped straight razor to do that. My Random Leek by Kershawk was also very sharp out of the box.

I would have said Spyderco until I got my Bark River- amazingly sharp!

I agree with that. My Seal Pup was screaming sharp out of the box....

For folders, my Kershaw E.T. was quite sharp along with my benchmade 690.

Fallkniven TK4, Mauser & Spyderco Centofante 3 were razor sharp, but my jaw dropped wide open when I took Murray Carter's hand forged, white steel sandwich Wabocho out of the box. That blade looks so much better in person than on internet... I have seen some other santokus like Wusthoff and Henckels and although prices are comparable the German cutlery is simply Boring. You can have it hair popping sharp, but there isn't much more to it. Carter's blade resembles Samurai sword. You can look at it for hours and wonder how do the guys do such things? The thinness of the blade and convex grind make a huge difference! It's more than a pleasure to use. My carrots and onions are really terrified now. A masterpiece among kitchen cutlery!

I also would go with my Highland Special. BRKT's convex grinds are a scalpel out of the box!!!

I'll throw in a vote for the Fallkniven U2, with a possible Kershaw DoubleCross (first inspection opening I unknowingly cut off a bit of thumb).

My Mini-Ambush and my classic Rapala fillet knives are the sharpest.
