Spyderco edges are "crispy" - they're real sharp but not polished. they'll shave / pop hairs, but they'll also cut wet rope or layers of cloth easily. try that with a polished edge....it won't work.
I've found the same with my Moran in VG-10. Shaving sharp out of the box but with still a reasonably agressive utility edge.
To acheive the same shaving performance on my other blades I have to finish with a high polish, then there's not enough "tooth" to break the skin on a tomato.
I've been able to get similar results with the AG Russell Bird and Trout in D2 by just finishing with the corners on gray the Sharpmaker stones at 30deg.
Does anyone have any other tips or techniques on getting it shaving sharp with still a utility edge?
