Mark's pictures certainly have a lot of atmosphere about them, really shows off the whole ambience of DE shaving gear. I look forward to them as I don't even own a camera, I like others' pictures but have no interest in doing them myself. Bit like some people with gourmet food, they enjoy devouring it but stay out of the kitchen.....

Anyway, sauna as prep. Those pores open up.

Omega Boar. A cheap brush but delivers very well.

Taylor of Old Bond St. Lavender, my favourite TOBS soap. Odd purple colour that disappears but a rich lather that really gets to grips with 2 to 3 days beard.

Feather on its 5th shave and was fine.

Merkur 34. This was the razor I complained about some time ago as the plate is off from the edges and it can be rough if you don't watch it. I tried e-mailing Dovo but the e-mail gets returned. Annoying. This is a razor that suits me very well so the quality issues do disappoint, my other Merkurs are excellent.

After sun moisturizer, face feels on top of the world. NEVER got that from cartridge and canned foam!

Preparation: Hot shower
Lather: DR Harris Arlington hard soap
Brush: Merkur Futur-style
Razor: Merkur Futur (f/3)
Blade: Bic Chrome Platinum
Aftershave: Cold water rinse and isopropyl alcohol splash

Result: Of course, the new thing for me here is the soap. This was my first shave with the DR Harris product. I usually reserve judgement on any soap until I've shaves with it for at least a dozen or so days. It take some iteration to get -- as I like to say -- "dialed in" with a new soap, to figure out a good way to use it.

But, even after one shave I can say that this DR Harris stuff works very well. Either I got lucky and hit on a good process from day-one or this soap has a wide process window. I got a a very nice lather and a great shave.

OK here is something different, the first pass on this mornings shave

Preshave: Hot Shower
Razor: Gillette Single Ring
Blade: IP Red
Soap: L'Occtaine Cade
Aftershave: Old Spice

Someone on B&B was wondering about shaving long beards so I fought the urge to shave for 4 days and cut it off. The video doesn't really show how long it was but it was about 3/16" long. It was hard to not shave for that long, but I managed to do it:D
I did finish the full shave and it was good:D You also get to see how bad the scar on my chin is, but it is no problem with an open comb DE razor. Unlike the multi bladed razors that use to cut the scar.

Preparation: Hot shower
Lather: DR Harris Arlington hard soap
Brush: Merkur Futur-style
Razor: Merkur Futur (f/3)
Blade: Bic Chrome Platinum
Aftershave: Cold water rinse and isopropyl alcohol splash

Boring... I know. I'm still plugging away with this DR Harris Soap. It's too early to reach a conclusion, but my current impression is very good. This soap is really working well for me.

Overslept, must've been the thunderstorm....

Shower and very hot face flannel.

Due to the heat lately in N.Europe, my new tub of Taylor Lavender cream was 'leaking' scraped off half a teaspoonnful and mixed it with some Cella. RESULT? Wonderful! Exciting mix of herb lavender and sweet almond, froths like mad too.

Feather, new blade.

Merkur Traveller, small very accurate razor.

One of the best shaves for months, no burn no nicks despite being under the cosh for time.

Cold water, moisturizer.

Preparation: Hot shower
Lather: DR Harris Arlington hard soap
Brush: Merkur Futur-style
Razor: Merkur Futur (f/3)
Blade: Feather
Aftershave: Cold water rinse and isopropyl alcohol splash

I'm still very happy with the DR Harris soap and will make a more-detailed post about it soon.

Today's shave was noteworthy because it was the third shave on this Feather blade and it did not go smoothly at all. I usuly get two great shaves (the second only slightly less than the first) per-side from a feather. On Thursday and Friday, the first side of this Feather gave excellent shaves. Today was the first shave on the secon side and I knew there was trouble very early on. I managed to eek out a good -- and bloodless -- shave, but it just goes to show that even the best brands have a bad edge every once in a while.

Razor: Super Speed Red Tip
Soap: Proraso green
Blade IP Red
Aftershave: The Gentleman's Reserve Standard

Recently Shoppers Drugmart has a sale of "shaving creams" and I bought a couple, The Real Shaving Co and what I think is the Shoppers house brand Balea. While the RSC is good even though it is a little too flowery for my taste, the Balea is no better than the canned goop. What I normally do with these failure shaving soaps and creams is relegate them to the shower to use as a preshave. Thats what I did with the Balea today and as a preshave it works pretty good. It doesn't lather but the cream held to me face till I rinsed it off at the end of my shower.

I wanted a good close shave today, hence the choice of the Red Tip, so I went with my 5 pass shave. I did get the first nick I have had in a long time but I was touching up around the scar on my chin and got a little careless. Overall It was a good shave, would have been great if not for the nick. I finished up with some Gentleman's Refinery Standard Aftershave balm for that nice silky smooth feel:D
