You can start at the original asking price, $100 lower, or $1,000 higher. That is your prerogative.

Not everyone knows what the original price of everything. It's not unheard of for custom pieces to be marked up on the secondary market, perhaps he thought that was the case. Maybe he just did know and thought that's what you paid.

My point, and I don't think I'm alone here, is that an offer of 25% off your asking price on custom axe/knife on the secondary market is really not the big deal you've made it out to be. If he came in asking for half off, I'd be in your boat.
