Shirogorov Neon ultra lite arrived and I'm a little annoyed...

I don't see why you think it's such a big deal to shorten the Blade 3 sixteenths of an inch. Really, what's the big deal? Why the resistance?

The cost is minimal, less than 3% of the cost of the knife.

The benefit is I stay in compliance with the laws, so if someone wearing a badge decided he wanted to harass me over a pocket knife, like he is a collector and recognizes the shiro pocket clip, knows they come 3.25", and I'm in an "under 3 inch" jurisdiction, and maybe thinks it is an easy and free addition to his collection, then he's going to get his ass handed to him, Whereas your way would have to just lose the knife and take his crap, because of the fear that he could write you up for something.

If this unlikely situation above, or any other event ever were to happen, how it plays out ends up being a pretty big difference, as I would now be in substantial compliance of the law.. And if it doesn't happens all it cost me a tiny little bit of money $20, which is near nothing, plus I get the bonus of always having peace of mind.

Do I expect anything like this to happen, no, but I do pay my car house and health insurance. To pay this insurance cost me twenty bucks one time, and then I'm legally untouchable.

When I started this thread what I looking for was something that was a smaller high-quality flipper like this shirogorov mrbs, but that would comply with my local ordinances of under 3 inch blade.

It just took a week for it to occur to me that the best way to get a knife that makes those criteria is to actually have a shirogorov and just simply shorten the blade three sixteenths of an inch.

Not a big deal, especially given no blades are born the shape they end up with on any knife, they are ground that shape, so to grind a little bit more is not a big deal.
The top will be satin finished instead of the factory stonewash (tumbled) but that is fine with me.

Completely serious question: Are folks really concerned with getting knives confiscated by the police?...

Generally no but it depends on familiarity with the law. We can carry a folder of almost any length as long as it is concealed and not some type of switchblade or "prohibited/dangerous weapon" There are a few exceptions however most situations could be explained away: "I carry a knife for work, to open mail, packages, etc"

Like you said if you were doing something to get searched you have bigger issues.

So why not just simply be in compliance with the laws if it's very easy and cheap??

Ignorance of any law is not a functional defense. You would lose the knife and possibly be fined, and in some places you could be exposed to being detained.

I for one would rather spend the $20 and eliminate the possibility 100%.

Better make it a 2" blade for Fremont then:

Dangerous weapons,” as used in Section 9.15.050, means and includes, but is not limited to: any knife having a blade two inches or more in length, or any snap blade or spring blade regardless of the length of the blade; any ice pick or similar sharp stabbing tool; any straight edge razor, or any razor blade fitted to a handle; or any cutting, stabbing, or bludgeoning weapon or device capable of inflicting bodily harm.

Is it possible a knife can be confiscated, yes. Is it probable your knife will, not likely. Again keep it in your pocket and have a good cause/faith statement ready to go.

I don't go to Fremont often, But I do regularly go to Alameda, Berkeley, and Oakland.

At 2.95" I like the size.

I would not want a 2" blade on a shiro flipper, it would throw so many things off, so I'm not interested in shortening it to something shorter than would be my personal preference. Just under 3" is my preferred length, legal or not. Looks less "murdery" and there is nothing a 3" blade can't do that a 4" blade can within reason.

At 2.95" I'm doing it because I like that size and it keeps it legal.

J Jumbi8 I respect your decision. If you want to regrind that Shiro, the more power to you. Just make sure you post a pic when you’re done!

Your money your knife I have no problem with it.
People do lots of things to knifes and guns I don't like but so what not up to me to decide for someone else what mods they can or can't make. If that's what you want go for it!!

Hation carbon finally arrived. I like them both, the neon and the hation. I'm just going to keep them both for now. :)

The Hation is lighter, but the neon doesn't necessarily benefit from being lighter, so they are just different, but I love them both.
