Short sentence to describe each brands?

I keep thinking about this in terms of representative questions when a knife pops up on the exchange. Like:

Strider: how's the lockup?

Emerson: how's the lockup?

Hinderer: does it flip ok?

Zero Tolerance: have you used it to cut anything?

Cold Steel: have you cut many cinder blocks with it?

Spyderco: you're sure it's not a clone?

To expand upon my previous post:

Emerson: The darling of the tactifools/making "made in the USA" a questionable attribute

Southern Grind: Proof that celebrities can actually do something that's worth two *****.

Medford: Knife that wants to be a prybar, or prybar that wants to be a knife?

Cold Steel: Ruining the pockets the masses

William Henry: The culture club of knives. "Do you really want to hurt me?"

Benchmade: Chevy products, Bentley prices (and quality control)

Spyderco: More choices than the Moonlite Bunny Ranch, cleaner but five times uglier.

Brous Blades: You want how much for D2 and G-10?

SOG: Tactical mediocrity

Butterfly/Bali-songs: Watch me whip, whip, watch me nae nae

Automatics: Press the button you must, and fulfill your destiny.

Busse: Felling 500 year old Sequoias without regret

Khukris: Most excellent at chopping and brush clearing, good luck sharpening.

ESEE: The Arnold Schwarzenegger of knives "Get to the chopping!"

Medford: You could almost mistake them for knives!

Brous: We really hope you like overpaying for D2!

Hinderer: Where most brands will fix a crap detent, we insist it's a feature!

Spyderco - Is this a sprint or dealer exclusive?
Benchmade - MAP will save the industry
Emerson - Can sharpen them in 1/2 the time with 1/2 the edge
Strider - You can break it in half, but don't clean it
CRK - So what if it dulls in the safe deposit box, look at the tolerances
Gerber - Oregon or bust
Buck - You gotta know when to hold 'em, know when to fold 'em
Cold Steel - PETA's worst nightmare
SOG - Hope the Gunny can right this ship
ZT - Legends in their own mind
Hinderer - I can't believe I traded 6 knives for this....
Smith & Wesson - PT Barnum said it best
Schrade - If it doesn't rust, it's a bust

all in fun of course as I have owned almost every one of these brands.

Oooh...now its gonna get good.

Chris Reeve Knives - Tolerances tighter than a virgin.

Rick Hinderer Knives - Seducing you with lock bar stabilizers.

Brous Blades - D2. That's is all there is. Really.

Al Mar - Way underrated, high quality.

Victorinox - Can't hold an edge worth a crap, yet is one of the world's most respected knife brands.

Kershaw - Brought you ZT, beeyotches! Recognize.

Byrd Knives - Spyderco's ugly little stepchild.

Bradley Cutlery - Benchmades in disguise.

United Cutlery - What can you say about United Cutlery that hasn't already been said about Feces? Not to be confused with Gerber.... Or SOG.

I read about the detent alot. Is it that bad?

It's bad if you like flippers to flip. They won't change the detent, and any attempt to change the detent voids the warranty.

If you see the tang extension as a finger guard, it's fine. If you don't mind using wrist action to help the knife open, it's fine. If you want it to flip, though, you're far better off with the ZT / Kershaw collabs.

I can flip both my Hinderers, no wrist action even straight upwards. Lightening fast flipping no complaints here.

Yours are the exception, not the rule. I've handled a half-dozen Hinderers and they've all been crap flippers. Luckily, they were all trades or great deals, so I didn't lose any money on them... But I'll never get another one without knowing beforehand that it has a good detent. I really really really want an XM-24 Wharnie or Bowie, but I'm not going to drop a $200 premium for a blade shape over the ZT models if the Mid-Tech can't flip as well as a $20 kershaw.

They flip just fine, just different than a bearing flipper. I couldn't flip the 1st one very well at first, but I found it will flip as fast as anything if you pull the flipper through, instead of relying on it to let go suddenly.

My XM-24 Bowie flips like a dream. My XM-18 Bowie is just as good now that I learned how to flip it. Try one out they're great and I've heard others say theirs is too.

Spyderco - An acquired taste
Opinel - wow that's a sharp mother______!
Mora - same as above

Victorinox - "show your SAK to everyone " , or
"you can throw all the rest of your real tools in the crapper"

Opinel: Seriously, this is WAAAAYY too little to pay for this baby!

Mora: You can say that again!

Whew! You guys are tough. Lots of truth in these posts however. I'm sure glad no one brought up one of my favorite maker's. Starts w/ a D. Not helping you any more than that. Mostly autos.

Map will do what?

Mora = Cheap, extremely sharp, easy to sharpen and even sells the blanks to us novice knife making enthusiasts to have our first taste of knife making.
Victorinox = Brilliant tool, functionally not used as a knife most of the time but for a good reason.
Busse = Best all rounder, almost indestructible under normal use.
