Shot Show 2018

Lots of knife videos getting posted this afternoon.

I so like the contrasting handle inserts Benchmade is using on some of the 2018 lineup.

The "Mini Freak" looks to be solid user.

I'm very exciting about Spyderco Amalgam, unsure if it will be a good EDC+ or "tactical" knife. Looks like CF handles so most likely EDC+... but either way, great ergonomics, good design, compression lock flipper!

China has officially taken over. Kizer with it's premium Ganzo looking lineup coming heavy. ZT going full full steam ahead on the 3D machining.

I can't be the only one that's so tired of all the gimmicky 3d machined crap with no thought put into the design other than "because we can" .

I'd like to think that there is room for everyone but the realist in me says at some point in the next few years there will be some serious consolidation and one or more of the big US brands will be gonzo.

Chinaco knives are just starting to gather steam. Two suns is hard on the gas, kizer, we, reate, rike they all have made significant headway. All while the supply chain continues to flatten.

It's a great time to be a fan of knives but on the flipside I can't help but think it's never been more competitive to try and make a go of making, marketing and distributing knives.

It's been one of the major focuses of this years SHOT Show, adding any option you can imagine into the manufacturing and material process.

From the SHOT show website: If you use or produce tools, machinery, plastics, metal extrusions, fabrics, OE materials, fabrication, logistics, software, or other products and services for the shooting sports or outdoor sporting industries, then SHOT Week's Supplier Showcase is your opportunity to connect with each other at the upcoming SHOT Show.

There is a bleed over always between the gun and knife businesses, so I'm not surprised. People have been stipling Glocks on their own for years, now a printer can do the same thing.......although I can't stand stippled Glocks

this is a great year at shot for my wallet.......as i wont be spending much money. wife will be real happy.

benchmades are real boring and uninspired and disappointing and nothing i want....one zt i like, couple spydercos, couple cold steels, couple kershaws, more than a few bucks i like and im impressed with.....for me the high point of the new stuff is buck this year....so far.......

I watched a video about CRKT's releases. I have a bit of a love/hate relationship with CRKT. I think that, generally speaking, their quality is crap. On the other hand, they seem uncommonly willing to put out those mechanically-odd collaborations that I adore. Sometimes when your only choice is between the $30 collab and the $600 custom, you welcome the crappy $30 knife.

They seem to be doubling down on the Field Strip mechanism, even though I have heard some poor reviews. They introduced 4-5 new Field Strip knives and talked about a "Field Strip 2.0." I wonder if that could become a way for them to separate themselves from the junk knife herd?

Emerson kwaiken looms sweet too but will probably be $300 for a liner lock. And Emerson made some balisongs?! Too bad they're uglier than sin.

That is still 10+ knives to purchase if my counting is correct :p got say your wife is very forgiving ;)

I'm still waiting for the following knife from Buck: 110 with an S30V blade, thumb stud, skeletonized frame, aluminum or titanium bolsters, G-10 scales and a pocket clip. Every year or so they put out a 110 that has some of those. It's time to put them all together into one knife.

im interested to see how the Emerson tactical kwaiken turns out....I want one, and I hope it is well done. My fear is that it will end up like every other Emerson I have owned...rushed out the door with piss poor QC, poorly machined G10, and a blade that never centers quite right. The design is killer though.

I may also finally be buying another Spyderco...generally I avoid them like the plague, but when they put out a blade shape that's not a leaf my interest is sparked a bit. I loved the SK23 custom, and I hope they don't ruin it in the production run....though Im interested to see the pricing on it, they may just price themselves out of a winner there.

I'm liking that ZT 462, yes, mostly for the aesthetic. Don't really need it. Not as cramped looking as the 460 (which I couldn't justify already having a 450) and they lost the huge logo on the blade. Good for you, ZT!
The Kershaw Concierge and that copper Natrix (SX?) I think are on the must grab list for my son's 14th birthday. Though copper and D2...I might want one, too.
I already pre-ordered the Benchmade 417.
Haven't seen the new Spydies...and with the above, and what I've already done since 1/1, I couldn't afford them, anyway.
I may be done with knife purchases by 1/31 this year, then just sit back and wait for '19.
