Shot Show 2018

I love how Spyderco completely redid their bearing/race/washer assembly. Should be less finicky. I wonder how they flip!
I swore off Spyderco flippers but now I'll give them another try. Maybe the Mantra 3.
With this year's offerings, Spyderco once again proves to be in a class of their own in the knife world IMO. A little bit of everything from fixed blades to improvements on old models, to innovative new models.

The TOPS Knives Mini-Scandi Folder has my attention. I know I'm one of about five guys here who actually takes TOPS seriously, but they have moved away from the "all our knives are Serious Business for Hardcore Operators" marketing.

3"-3.5" blade, N90 stainless, liner lock, true Scandinavian grind, micarta slabs, price is supposed to be $150, and if that's MSRP, then street price should be about $120.

Hmmmm. This kind of sounds like another folder that was supposed to come out a few years ago, but then never happened.....

Edit: Condor is also coming out with a tribute to the "Otzi Knife". It's not normally my thing, but I kind of want it.

IMO, the Field Strip is interesting, and potentially useful, but it has to be applied correctly. Knives that are intended for game cleaning are a great place for this, but applied to EDC knives, it comes off as a neat marketing feature.

I'm not a fan, here's a review on one.

As long as they don't go "Field Strip all teh fings!" (AutoLAWKS, anyone? No? Too bad, you don't have a choice, anymore!), it will be fine.

I haven't been interested in anything Spyderco has had since the blurple s110v para2, but I agree they now have my attention again with a few newer offerings.

I'm interested in seeing where Protech takes the Boker Kwaiken when they start to offer it with different handle options

I'm sure it'll be good, atleast the blade. That's basically the sheepsfoot blade that they have on the Griptilian.

Now that you mention it, that does look like the Benchmade Grip sheepsfoot blade. Maybe a modified Rock Lobster?

Hopefully it's not priced like the 781 Anthem...

The Bushcrafter and Scandi are decent blades but only one of the very few practical knives they make. In general, TOPS made a name for themselves by capitalizing on the tacticool craze, which has been dying down. They come up with some really outlandish designs intended to capture imaginations and havent focused a lot on buyers in the market for a quality knife that has actual practical value. They make a decent quality product but most of it is really far out stuff.

Can anyone post pictures or link or video of Spyderco Smock please other then the one on knife news !
