Should I re-release the Kephart? Edit: No apparently not

More Kepharts?

No opinion, as I already have 3. But I do think it's heavily underrated, your Kephart is still one of my favorite, most useful knives.

Maybe send it to that Austrian guy, let him break it, and then come out with a 0.25" version ? Put a "Bad MFKR" label on the back and it will fly off the shelves ! 🤣

I voted No because the traditional handle scales were too thin for me and the profits were were too thin for you.

If you are feeling the traditional bug, please make a run of nice Ironwood, Coco Bolo, & Osage scales for the EDC. I bugged Jo relentlessly during the last pre-order for these to no avail. They would sell-out like a Friday sale for a new model. No D3V required. I would buy five sets. Dooo It !!!

On another note, I think the prize for winning the Outlaw Cut next October should be getting to pick what model you will run next and first Dibs of the BMF marked one from that lot.

Thanks!

Phil

If it is unprofitable, then you should not do it, or find a way to make it profitable. Given you won't compromise on quality, that probably means raising the price. I can see that not feeling great - there are a lot of direct comparisons, it being a popular pattern. I really appreciate your fan service - the run of Fat Bastards demonstrates the sort of hassles you'll put up with to give us stupid but popular toys. Losing money on top of that is not fan service, it is self harm.

From a strictly selfish viewpoint, I have one, don't think I need another. But basically everything else you mentioned would extract cash from me.

It's not a CPK design and it was not a good seller. It is made with two primary grind angles so it is a difficult, time-consuming, ugly, unprofitable knife.

Obviously I should be doing another run of the Super Duty or the folder or the skinner, a micro EDC or dust off Lorien's glorious DEK1 again. Or even more UFs. Idunno.

Somebody planted a bug in my ear and now I'm seriously considering having some of my 3V Delta rolled out for Kepharts for 2026-2027

*Channels my inner Nathan*

Nah.

You run a business not a charity so do what makes the most sense for you and your expended time and effort. I'll get dinged for this but I would bet well north of 50% of your knives are never used and for the people that collect, buy and sell the Kephart has little interest other than to complete the "set".

That said, I believe if more people tried it they would find the Kephart works surprisingly well. It doesn't look good or have sexy lines but it works really well in almost all cases other than those that need a fine point. I have and have used most of the Carothers models all the way back to the original FK1 and the Kephart compares very favorably. A practical design in your optimized steel is hard to beat.

A micro edc would be amazing. Do you have any designs worked up?

I think you have plenty of other new or popular designs you could focus on first since there is only so much time and production capacity.

Granted if you happen to have a few for fun Friday sales to sprinkler in for kepharts I wouldn’t complain since I do not have one.

Any of your other existing patterns would be more desirable than the Kempart. With the exception of the FK3/basic version which may be close to saturation, there will be larger quantities of any other knife that you produce purchased, in my opinion. The demand for skinners, potatoe knives, DEKs or the UF2 is far greater than the Kempart. Of course the folder will break the internet. Boot daggers would also be a very welcome reboot.
