Should nots...

Hahhaha. No, a .22 took it out The FAL was just for size reference after I skinned it (used a swamp rat Vex)

The record copperhead (I believe) was 52inches and this one came in at 48.

Funny timing seeing this thread. I had a rattler curled up near my feet at the job site in the hills today. Took it's head off with a shovel. Discovered it was pregnant with 6 more while skinning it with my Benchmade. They were all moving upon removal so I grabbed the 911 from under the drivers seat of the 4Runner and took off their heads.

That's just awesome, and my nightmare!

The last one i got a few years ago had eggs in her, and i know that rattlers are born alive, so i actually was looking out for this when i skinned this one!

Frankly, even though i was looking for it, i would not have enjoyed it ;)

well done!

Ha, yeah man, it was pretty creepy as they kept coming out and that they were moving around when they did. Glad there are 7 less of those suckers where I am working!

Every time I think about cutting a snake open to find baby snakes inside, I always think of that scene from Indiana Jones when they're at a dinner with the prince in The Temple of Doom and they're served "snake surprise"

I wish I could say I would do that but nope! I would not be able to say that honestly :D Snakes and Spiders. . . . I will just run away. It seems easier. After a night of camping, I woke up and had a huge spider in my purse ( by huge, it was the size of a nickel. . . . huge to me :D). I had to ask Lora to get it out for me. LOL

Nice pics retrocon! Do you ever get to Fish River Canyon near there? I took these photos last month and can usually find one of these guys within a half hour or so on warm days.

It was just a cute little jumping spider, but I'm not one to mock people for their phobias. I have no problem helping anyone out with a spider problem. It's what I'm here for. :D

I have good friends from Sitka and Rochester that stay with us at least once a year... both are all jumpy about Funnel Web Spiders.... the Alaskan more so.... ;) I remind him he has bears to contend with but the little furry spiders just freak him out....not like a Funnel Web will bother you....well not much.....I mean it is not like they will crawl into your shoes and wait for your foot or anything at all........ ;) ;)

Funny thing is the only time I see them around home regularly is when I have the bug spraying guy in and for the next week I am finding them stumbling across my garage floor....

One from my yard last year...

And the only part of the very cranky Tiger Snake just near my camp late last year I could snap a pic of...when I was trying to get the pics he would come out and be all nasty then retreat back under the buses, being what he is and where I was meant I was not pushing the envelope too far to get the pics....it is a pity because he was doing the whole raised and flattened head bit...!!!!!

Pokey... "... and Spiders..."

dittos on that! Except for tarantulas, which i feel like i could outrun. :D

Nope, never heard of fish river canyon... the only one i found on a maps search was in Namibia, a bit further from the Superstition Mountains then i'd likely travel on a day trip ;) Seriously, what's it near?

Hmmm... maybe not so fast, can't make out the details on the head or tail, but the "diamonds to stripes" pattern make those look like Mojave's? If so, they're about the meanest and most toxic rattler out there! (or so i've heard)
