Should we have a Hall of Shame section?

Spark, it's been brought up before and I'm in favor of it - think of it as an index function for troublesome individuals like Mssr's Blade, Sigman, Rief and others of their ilk.

Link to the threads relevant to the subject-matter folks and let the public decide if they want to engage in any sort of relationship with these folks.

I've seen a lot of energy spent across cyberspace tracking folks down, but it's a pain in the ass to keep stock of all what is published for such purpose. As long as the lawyers tell you that you're not putting your ass in a sling while doing it, my vote is yes.

It's about time. Again. Let's face it there are threads that are being drawn up day after day for no other reason than to keep the offender's name current.

Put them all in a prominent spot. Threads or a list, I don't care. Just do it and cease with the BTTT's.

I know nothing of the legal ramifications, but I am certain there's a workaround.

yes, and make it a sticky so it stays at the top and under each looser post the link to the threads that explain the deeds:thumbup:

Another vote. Preferably, one stickied thread at the top with all the names/aliases, but if that can't be done for legal reasons, a sub-forum would also be good.

I think it's a good idea.
It'll save a lot of time that would be spent searching and then reading through page after page of threads.

Having one place, one list of who should be avoided should be very helpful, to new and old members here alike.

Isn't this why we have a Search function on GB&U? If I want to find out how big a scumbag a maker like Dale Reif, Kevin McClung, Allan Blade, or Steve Corkum is, I just do a search. Likewise, if I want the skinny on AnnDem, Vlad, or Jaxurman, a quick search here gives me a balanced picture of just how slimy they actually are.

And, balanced is the operative word. There may be folks whose dealings with these people who are the worst lying, theiving, unethical worms of the knife world was actually positive, and that is worthy of note as well.

I agree with Gollnick, watch the legal aspect.

Also offer this:
EQUAL TIME

How about one for GOOD, and another for BAD?

There are plenty of Good Guys, who never "bust a deal" , who offer compromise, and generally go the extra mile. Businessmen/KnifeMaker's as well as individuals. Businessmen who back their warrantees, Knifemaker's who fill their orders fast and with a smile, etc.

2-pronged approach: Reward good behavior, smackdown bad behavior.

Under the BAD, simply post "Name Rank and Serial #" , possibly one sentence regarding the perceived problem, then link it to the site's Search Engine for users to form their own opinion based on the record.

The current GOOD BAD UGLY section is the fishin hole.
The GOOD & BAD sub-sections would be the Fish themselves, those caught and maybe some that got away.

just my two cents

I had this idea as well and, after cougar explained it to me, I found that gb&u is viewable by everyone, not just users and members of the site. so, I figure that it is not absolutely necessary but it would probably cut down on a lot of the chatter in some of the infamous "bad" threads.

If it is a VERIFIABLE FACT that an individual is a thief and/or a liar, it is legally permissable to post said facts, as Truth is an "affirmative defense."

Unfounded rumor, opinion, & speculation intended to do harm to the reputation of another is construed as "libel" and "malice" which are grounds for a civil lawsuit.

VERIFIABLE FACTS that are PROVEN TO BE TRUE may be posted freely without fear of lawsuits or prosecution.

I'm going to agree wihth those that note that the legal ramifications could be far more dangerous then the benefit provided by the service.
