Show me your custom camp knife/chopper.

I looked at that pic of Rik's knife again.... I don't buy the "stuck in two branches" bit... the overall geometry of the cutting edge looks like it flows into a cut-out. And it looks like you can see background through the cut-out, NOT branch. On top of that, I think that other "branch" is a totally different tree that is leaning off in the background. :) I am trying to understand the notch myself. :)

Chuck, that hamon is crazy whicked! :)

That Burt Foster is a screamer. :eek:Very cool. Just don't take it to a cutting comp as some will make fun of it. Ask me how I know.

Thanks Nick, Much appreciated:thumbup:

Here are a couple of my firebreaks with the new field finish I have started doing. I began bead blasting the blades at a customers request. It turned out so good I decided to offer this instead of the "normal" polishing that takes hours and adds hundreds of dollars to the cost. The bead blast actually accentuated the Hamon and only slightly affects the hardened portion of the blade. This finish is much easier to do so I can keep my prices down to were I feel a user should be. I can also refinish this blade much easier than a "normal" polish.

Please excuse the hot spots but it was the only way I could get the hamon to pop.

Thanks for looking

That looks so sweet love the way the blade came out. I'm in need of a chopper like that.

Here's one I made for the ABS cutting competition. 52100, brass and canvas micarta. As you can see it did the job. The following year I made one out of Damascus and the judge actually made fun of it. Unfortunately I did not do as well that year. The judge kind of backed off when I showed him the pic of this winning knife.

you call it 'the Homewrecker'?

Below are the pictures of my recently acquired parang from Mang Ako of Tasikmalaya, Indonesia. It's my own design based on what I remember handling when I was a kid in my village. What parang is that? It's what we called as Parang Pendek or Parang Kontot in my village which is situated in the middle part of Peninsular Malaysia. It is also called as Parang Lading Pendek in the northern part of the peninsular. Sarawakian called it as Parang Candung (i.e. among Malays) or Duku Candung (i.e. among Dayaks). While in Java it is called as Parang Bandol. According to Anton (i.e. Naturalist) it is also called as just Candung in East of Sumatra (i.e. in Lampung area for example). One thing to mention here is the fact that those parangs with various names are actually have slight differences in their specs but with the same basic design!
