Show me your custom camp knife/chopper.

I bet whoever owns that sippie cup is not very happy.;-)

Actually, both of my sippie cup users were sitting at the table and I think they enjoyed it. Especially since it turns out that it is difficult to eat a gingerbread house without first destroying it. The real issue is chopping just a weeeee bit past the gingerbread house. I was trying not to chop all the way into the table, and for the most part I was successful. :o

Below are the pictures of my recently acquired parang from Mang Ako of Tasikmalaya, Indonesia. It's my own design based on what I remember handling when I was a kid in my village. What parang is that? It's what we called as Parang Pendek or Parang Kontot in my village which is situated in the middle part of Peninsular Malaysia. It is also called as Parang Lading Pendek in the northern part of the peninsular. Sarawakian called it as Parang Candung (i.e. among Malays) or Duku Candung (i.e. among Dayaks). While in Java it is called as Parang Bandol. According to Anton (i.e. Naturalist) it is also called as just Candung in East of Sumatra (i.e. in Lampung area for example). One thing to mention here is the fact that those parangs with various names are actually have slight differences in their specs but with the same basic design!

In my past this type of parang is a real great general utility camp knife :D

I can see many uses from this design. It has a nice long blade and forward sweet-spot, yet you can choke up on the blade and get better control for fine work. Very cool. Just goes to show almost every type of cutter has been made sometime or another.

You got the point Chuck  The front part of the sharp edge is meant for cutting, the middle part of the sharp edge is meant for chopping, the back part of the sharp edge is meant for whittling, and the long ricasso is meant for front hand grip ;)

It just occurred to me that I ought to add my recently completed camp knife to this epic thread as well :)

This is my first "big" knife/chopper. I'm a bit disapointed in performance but I have some ideas moving forward with my next one.

Just got another chopper... this one is f/ AC Richards. His Firebreak. She's a big beautiful beast!!

Here are a few quick iPhone pics... Not the best action shots, but I haven't been able to chop w/it yet.

Like Chuck's work very much. The way he shaped the handle makes it ergonomically nice and comfortable in hand. The slightly rounded spine makes it suitable for a palm support if and when necessary! Test it and you'll find out that it can hold edge retention considerably long.

Here's my latest and greatest. It's made by Gene Scaffe. The blade is 9.5" long and has antique micarta scales. Full, tapered tang. 1/4" tool steel (can't quite remember the exact type) with a belt finish. Has been known to glow blue in the presence of orcs. ;) Also known to cause ABS mastersmiths to grin with excitement whilst waving it about making lightsaber sound effects... Yeah, I'm not even making that part up.

I was not making light saber sound effects the knife does that on its own. Only when I held it, well, a lot of knives make that sound when I wave them about.

I like the looks of this one... but how do you like using it w/the Paracord Wrapped handle? I've always shy'd away f/those because I prefer a hidden tang (feels warmer and better contoured in my hand) ... but I can also appreciate the cord-wrapped for what it is as well.

I also prefer hidden tang choppers for comfort, although I dont do near the hacking Adam does ( I usually just walk right behind him through the cleared swath :D ) There is some tree blood you can see on the blade though :)

Yes, paracord can be a bit insufficient for much chopping at all, at least on one this big. Its winter here so I have yet to really use it without gloves so it's alright for now...I may get around to putting a handle on it one of these days...so whn the zombie's come...I'm ready :)
