Show me your custom camp knife/chopper.

Here is one I made a little while back, its Aldo's 1075 1/4" clay quenched but didnt bother bringing out the hamon. Partial tang, my first try at this. Handle is natural claro and champher rosewood. Wedge grind. Alot of little mistakes and what not but it was a learning experience. Still got a good blade out of it. The thing slices thru smaller branches with ease.

Here is one of my latest. I think it qualifies as a chopper Just not a big one
14 inch overall length
8 1/2 inch hollow ground blade with a hand-rubbed finish
False edge top grind
2 Inches tall at its largest point
ATS-34, Triple tempered to a rockwell of 59

Short video of some of my testing after heat treating the blade.

This is one of my all time favorite threads! Camp Knives and Choppers have become on of my favorite knife categories right up there with Fighters and Bowies...

Here is a Camp Knife "Proto-type" made for a fellow knife maker. The final one will be in Stainless damascus.

And while I am posting here are a few more of my Vegan Crocs that recently went out to customers

And a Sneak peek at a project in the works

Here's one I have done in edge quenched 1075 with nickel silver gaurd, copper spacers and ringed gidgee.

Cheers Bruce

Hey bruce, correct me if I'm wrong but i purchased that knife at a melbourne show some years back, i still have it, it's a user and users just fine indeed.

All of you camp knife fans, be sure to check out the camp knife article in Knives 2014 and let me know what you think. :)

All brought on by an order from a friend/knife maker that pushed me to try and better understand things that I thought I already knew... :foot: And more reasons (on the right) for me to not want to water quench blades! :grumpy:

Chop, chop, chop... :)

BTW- in case you're thinking those tangs look small, the shortest one is 4-3/4"... it's just the blades are pretty ginormous. :D

Ohhh... a huge Chopper in 52100. D@mn you Nick... I do not have the $$ for another big blade right now, but your work makes me think I do. :)

A story of sorts...

I drew this up and sent it to Joe Calton...

Which in turn became this AWESOME bit of reality (A leaf spring shaped, sharpened and handled by Joe's skilled hands)...

Then traveled here with me today...

to help me collect some new structural support for this(sorry...too busy chopping, limbing and loading to take in use pics)...

A couple more pics of this ultimate shelter tool...

Yep, that's right, one sweep of the blade and it felled the tree where only the stump now remains!!! Okay, maybe that's a stretch, but it did perform Fantastic!!! It out-chopped my Council Tool axe, the precision of hits was Incredible and the balance is Excellent!!!! With the long handle, I can use it one handed or get some REAL momentum going with both hands. The balance is right at the maker's mark allowing the knife to feel light in hand when choked up for fine work and then just letting the blade do the work with one hand at the rear swell to easily lop off the small limbs. The final specs for this one came in as...

OAL - 28-1/2"
Blade Length - 17-1/2"
Handle Length - 11"
Thickness - .225"
Handle Material - Coyote/Earth G10
OA Weight - 2lbs.10oz.

It's an Agile and highly Nimble BEAST!!!

THANKS JOE!!! You knocked it out of the park!!!
