Show off your Fiddlebacks and Leather

It's been a busy couple days, but I couldn't wait any longer before sharing this awesome sheath RLO made for my Bushboot. The blue was Rick's idea, and it actually matches the pinstripe almost perfectly, even though it looks light in these quick pics.

Edited to add: The pics look like the blue is blurred into the other colors here and there. That is a trick of the light or something. Staring at the sheath in hand, I can't see it. If I'd noticed earlier, I would have retaken the pictures. The lines look brilliantly clean in hand.

@Bartlax4, thanks man!
After seeing all these sheaths on here it's amazing how perfect they look.
I love the blue on that sheath!

Hi Michael, I see that your sheath arrived on Tuesday. Very good indeed. And that Box Elder burl is very sweet indeed.

Thanks newsasquatch and Walt! I'm thrilled with the sheath. It actually arrived on Momday.

To be honest, I was having trouble bonding with the BB. It is a pretty thing, sure, but we just didn't connect. Since the RLO pants arrived, it has been on my belt constantly. It's all so nice it feels like an accessory, but I know I could trust any FB to come through when needed.

Michael, that sheath looks fantastic with the BB! Congrats and glad to hear you are coming around to the knife! :)

That thing is sick! I have to get a Bushboot again. I had one in my grasp the other day, but my kitchen faucet busted! I had to tap into my luxury allowance.

How does that box elder feel? Light? Slippery when wet? Grippy?

Thanks, man! I'm extremely pleased. I don't have a scale or anything, but the BEB feels heavy for its size to me. This one is 1/8 O1 with SFT, and the balance point is just ahead of the second pins. I've long wondered about trying to discover the weights of different handle materials as I theorize that certain materials would achieve TT balance with SFT. Unfortunately, I have no real data yet.

I haven't really worked the knife yet--just a couple swipes on phone book paper to ascertain sharpness, carried two days now, and lots of fondling. That means I don't really know if it'll be slippery. I suspect it could be somewhat so, but I don't expect it will be much slipperier than the standard maroon micarta handle.

It's hard to explain quite how it feels. It is nowhere as grippy feeling as burlap, and not quite so as the standard maroon micarta. A "grippy test" I do is to grab the handle with the end of my thumb on the material and push away from me under load. My burlap is hard to push my thumb across at all in this way, and I can really feel the texture of it when I try. With Walt's maroon micarta, there is no discernible texture and my thumb moves more readily, though it hops a little. With the BEB, I sense no discernible texture (like the micarta) but my thumb is more "jumpy," like it is a little "grabbier."

Of course, all this is an attempt at being scientific (and probably failing). 😉

I hope to use the BB a good bit next week. I'll try to remember to post an update.

That sheath looks great Michael! Fine work by Rick as always. It would be cool to see a spine shot showing the blue pinstripe next to the sheath.

I'll try to get a picture tomorrow. It will be a challenge to get the blue of the sheath to show accurately in a picture. Rick had trouble getting a good picture before he sent it, and I'm experiencing the same difficulty too. Practice makes perfect, so I guess I'll keep trying. 😉

Yeah .. that's Kawasaki Lime Green stitching. :D - the stuff almost glows in the dark!!

Here you go. Forgive the bright purple shirt and the complete lack of fashion sense. I realized while getting out of the car today that this might be the easiest way to get the spine shot. It also helped me see that spotting on the corner that needed attention.

Hey, had to show off my new Heber dangler sheath for my FB Bushcrafter. This is aged natural leather just like my machete sheath (which has aged even moreso, as you can see). Both are absolutely beautiful, sturdy, and even smell great!

I have to say again how awesome Heber is to deal with--this was a custom order (I'm a lefty) and he had it at my door a week after I paid him, and sent me pictures and updates several times along the way. Couldn't be happier with Heber sheaths for my serious user blades.

Does anyone know of another way to contact Rick Lowe besides his ruger315 address perhaps?

He agreed to make a sheath for my Bushboot but I haven't heard back from him since the 12th even though I've send him 2 emails since then. I'm wondering if he has email problems perhaps.

Apologies if this doesn't belong here, but I didn't know what else to do.

Doesn't sound like Rick. I'd guess the emails aren't getting through, for whatever reason. I'll try to PM him for you.
