Show off your Fiddlebacks and Leather

Love the setups Jim. How do you like the Masur Birch?

Thanks Abe! I really like the Masur Birch. Aesthetically it's beautiful. It's also very light weight. I have the same knife in Bloodwood and the weight difference is noticeable. It feels great in the hand and isn't slick like some stabilized woods. I've yet to have it out in the field as I just recently received the sheath for it but I'm definitely looking forward to putting it to use. It feels durable enough but I'll know better after a good amount of use.

I continue to love Jason's (Diomedes Industries) great sheaths. The craftsmanship and quality of the materials are awesome! Besides working great with Fiddlebacks, Jason's sheaths work great with knives from other makers. As Fiddleback fans, we are very lucky to get to work with a craftsman like Jason and a retailer like Fiddleback Outpost.

On an entirely different but related note, hey NC, how do you get your knots so tight up against your beads on your lanyard? I know how to tie the knot, but I've tried for this same look - a bead trapped between the two knots. But I can't seem to get my second knot tight up against the bead.

It took me a while to figure out how to do it. First, i loosely tied the knot. Then, I alternately tightened each strand a little bit. That allowed me to move the knot closer to the beads. It took a bit of time, and it was kinda difficult. However, I like the end result.

Well I guess I've got to try again. I tried this already but failed miserably. Maybe it's time for you to get over this way, sit by my fire, let me bribe you with whatever currency works best, and you can show me how it's done.

What I'd like most of all is to get some of Justen's bone beads for this, and tie the lanyard with leather. Bet that's gonna be close to impossible.

I found that moving each strand just a little bit at a time was key.

Those bone beads and leather sound like an awesome combination.

I would love to get back to NC! Loved living there. My wife is from Concord.

A marlin spike and hemostats help a lot in manipulating the knot... it's a matter of following the leads and taking all the slack out but it's easy to get disoriented in a lanyard knot or a turks head

Robert from Fiddleback Outpost is great. He came by and picked up another batch of knives and brought a tub full of Diomedes sheaths. I was able to pick this one up this afternoon. Sorry, I don't know the model.

He typically recommends the Gent for the Sylvrfalcen, so I'm guessing that's what you have. Great combination.

Thanks Phil! The funny thing is, I brought them to see what the new models fit (or didn't fit in). I seemed to have failed at that task today due to all the shiny distractions...and I left with a few less than I brought. 😉

That one with the Sylvrfalcen is the Diomedes APS 'Count' sheath. Same one I carried with my Sylvrfalcen! - Robert

Nope, the Gent is too small...it's for the Runt. - Robert
