Show off your Fiddlebacks and Leather

No not really it's just a hobby ... all my friends think I should at least open an Etsy shop but I'm very hesitant ... I don't want it to be stressful at all and don't really need the money... but recently I've been looking for new projects because I've already made all the bags I wanted when I got into it

Sounds like it could be a good way to approach Christmas gifts for some people. I don't know about others, but I always appreciate something someone made for me more than something from a big box store.

heespharm

how are you with waxed canvas/cotton?

if my request for a Frost River Isle Royale Mini to Santa does not pan out, I may have to hit you up:D:D

I don't have a sewing machine but funnily enough I have some military surplus canvas and two containers of canvas waxing agent for a project that didn't pan out...

Edit: oh haha just looked at that... I don't have that kind of experience with canvas... just small pouches and such... I think I could do it but would need to buy another sewing machine

Yeah that's kinda what I'm envisioning for the hobby or if I start an etsy... more like "I want this but they don't make it... can u help me?"; Rather than "can you copy this bag and make it cheaper than the retailer"

Where are you located. I've got a Toyota commercial machine that I picked up at a government auction in Norfolk. I replaced the three phase motor with a 120V DC digital drive so that I could slow it down enough to begin to learn industrial sewing. Who knew that industrial sewing machines needed compressed air to work the presser foot??? It's spending a lot of time sitting these days in a basement in Kansas City. The table, well that is making an awesome drill press stand, so it's not a total space sump.

That sounds almost too heavy duty... but sounds like a lot of fun too! I'm thinking about picking up something smaller like a vintage singer...

That's the one I'm toting around in the back of the car. In all honesty, the Singer slant 6 (301A IIRC) is a work horse, but leather is some tough stuff. I've got a thing for vintage sewing machines. I just love the way that they hum and the gears and the motion and the adjustments, and... Pictures!

Twenty bucks at the Thrift Store.

Another Thrift Store Find. A Singer 301A - the beast.

it was repossessed, I can only imagine the circumstances there, but someone had a sticker already made up, so it must have been pretty common.

And the Toyota to round things out.

If you've never checked out govliquidation.com and searched on your state, then you really should check it out.

Thats a Liam Hoffman bottle opener

Today was spent thinking about how to put the little axe into a sheath. I've got some ideas-- kind of a slip within a slip. Luckily I stumbled across a little one at a vintage antique/thrift store -- initially I questioned what I'd do with one, but the way the thing rips into amazon and other boxes is just magical. Maybe not the best four bucks I've ever spent, but definitely in the top three.

But, I so wanted the F2 to be a Schrade Sharpfinger, but alas it is not. Not to say it isn't a good knife (I'll be testing it out tomorrow -- I heard some old folks taking at Mcdonalds about Mist. Couldn't
tell if it was weather or whatnot. Anyway, I've devised a plan and will soon know the truth.

I'm sure Bushbarb would take it off your hands if you decide not to keep it. Haha.

Anyone hear from Rick recently? Been in touch with him for a while about a sheath and then he disappeared, hope all is well with him.

Nice sheaths Jim, Jason and Mark both do really nice work. I need one that sort of mixes both their styles for a Big Sneaky that I need to talk to Jason about.

Thanks Brian. They definitely do outstanding work. Both of them. Can't wait to see what what Jason comes up with for the Big Sneaky!

I just now realized that the pics I post from my Ipad are way too big. I should probably use a lower setting. :D
