Inspired by Tx308 Tx308 . The lighter was my paternal grandfathers. He wasn’t in WW2, but WW1. He did however, write and edit a paper for the troops in the European theater. I think it was called the CBS Mailbag. So, he received a lot of gifts from returning GI’s and traveled to Europe just after the war as a journalist. The Keenkutter was my late Father in-law’s. He was an Army officer in the Pacific theater. Oh, and the stories he told me.

Is that keenkutter a saber grind?
It appears to be but I can't be certain

Very cool regardless

Dug out my last one, this Zippo I bought in Gatlinburg TN in late summer 2003. I had recently returned home and my wife and I took a week trip to visit our oldest two in colleges (one in Columbia and one in Atlanta) and then spent the last four days in the mountains. We went to SMKW where I bought a knife and to a number of small tobacco shops in town, one of which I bought this Zippo at. Many years later I found the United Boker ARNG Trapper. Both have been kept unused as keepsakes. OH

Gatlinburg holds a special place in my heart. It was one of the first places I ever went fly fishing for trout. The Great Smoky Mountain National Park is beautiful!

My paternal grandfathers lighter, the only thing of his I have.
Took a bit of work to clean out the flint tube as it had been sitting unused for 40 odd years since his death when I received it but it works perfectly now.
I haven't smoked in over 5 years but it stays fueled up on my desk and gets occasional use.
Yea, those old deteriorated flints can be a pain! So happy you got it cleaned up though and an amazing keepsake.

L lithicus it would be very cool if you could post the entire picture of the Fisherman's Prayer. I have an old Hunter's Prayer and would love to see the entire wording of the Fisherman's your Grandma stitched. Thanks, OH
Of course! Here it is:

Very cool lighter and I love that Keen Kutter! I've been keeping my eye out for one. I knew, before I started collecting pocket knives, that they made great axes back in the day. Seems like it would be cool to own one of their folders as well. Very nice!!

Just so happens I had everything I needed to recreate that photo on hand
Except my old timer is inside and I am feeling lazy
So have a case mini trapper instead

Great photo and I really enjoy the mini trapper myself. I have one that is a new / modern Case in CV with (what I feel is) beautiful chestnut bone that I will have to post here sometime. I love the classic yellow delrin too! My full size trapper is in the yellow delrin. Can't go wrong with the "basics" 😆

It's not a ...pretty knife
And it was the first one I experimented with tapping bolsters to fix some blade play etc etc
After all of that her walk and talk isn't... great
And she has a pin crack
Neither blade is centered for crap (but at least they don't rub the liners)
Etc etc

But she at least still sharpens up amazingly
And I really don't care if something unfortunate happens to her

And that realization is somewhat eye opening and refreshing if I am being honest

Completely agree! One of my favorite users is a 1970 Case Barlow that had some blade play. It was never in great condition, so I tightened it up, peened the pin, and sanded it down. After all that, I don't mind what really happens to it! Just something for me to carry and something that is "my own" 😄 It sharpens up nicely and fits well in the pocket. And fwiw, my full size trapper in yellow delrin also developed a pin crack under the center pin. I believe it is fairly common, unfortunately.

WHOA!! I had no idea any of these existed! I love beagles and have one right now; although she is getting quite old. My grandfather had dozens of them before I was born for hunting rabbit. Is the knife on the far left a case? Looks like maybe a mini trapper? And is the barlow on the right scrimshaw or something?? I haven't seen these kinds of engravings on bone before, but I am new to the knife collecting hobby. I need to start looking into these!

Thanks.. 🤝 Yes.. The one on the left is a Case Mini-Trapper and the Barlow was a SFO from Case so I guess it was some kind of scrimshaw but factory??
Good Luck on your search as these have been out of production for quite a while..
