Show the factory knives you've customized ... part 2

That's sweet :)

What'd you use to thin the backspacer to the proper thickness? I don't have access to a surface grinder...

I actually picked up this peice of ALuminum on Ebay , it was 3/16 thick which is about .188 , .190 would be about purfect .
Thick it cost me about $8 shipped. Using 6061 allowed me to use common hand tools to cut it out ( hacksaw ) then used mostly files and a dremel ( til the chuck broke  ) and then finished fit by drilling the holes and mounting it in the liners and finish file and hand sand to match the liners.

Using the 3/16 there is a slight bit of a gap...not really noticeable unless you squint very hard. Next step is to take the scales back of and drill and tap the liners to put another screw close to the end of the backspacer.

Next spacer will go almost to the stop pin and have matching serrations filed into in and by then hopefully silver G10 scales .:D

back view :
you can see where near the end of the spacer it could use the extra screw to pull it in just a tad .

Guess what this one used to be.

It now has Ivory Micarta scales, hand rubbed blade, shortened and file worked spacer, slimmed down pocket clip.

Here's a scan of a Trailmaster handle I redid for Cerberus, its black Micarta with an added buttcap and red/black spacers. I also changed the guard.

The above Commander ( I call it the Chameleon as it's always changing ;) ) has been changed once again . Removed the anodizing from the liners , smoothed over the backspacer some more and hand rubbed the edges of the liners , polished out the blade a bit more , polished the pivot to match , polished out the pocket clip and screws and then made some scales from some F18 Carbon Fiber .

I think I got it just the way I want , now to get started on the matching mini commander :D

Here are some inserts I did for my Mini Socom Elite last night. I am happy with how this one turned out. It's Black Cherry Toad Skin.

I'm glad to see everyone continuing to contribute to this thread. It's cool to see all of the MOD's people are doing and expecially cool for it to be in one place :)

Here's a couple I did that have not been added to this thread yet..

Gary, there are so many perfectly good inexpensive blades in the marketplace.
Many of them just need some new clothes.
I do not have a lot of money, so wherever possible I use everyday items for handles, or I try to make my own.
Believe it or not, but this AG Russell “woodswalker” in AUS8 costs less than $10.
Some old copper coins and bone that I cut, aged and coloured to look “vintage”.
Extended the scales past the tang and installed a lanyard pin.
The woodswalker has become the “woodstrutter”!

No matter how many time I look at that Persian it is still baddass brudda ! The orange and black is just purfect !

Wow, there's some great lookin stuff here. How do you do the jeweled finish, and what metals can it be done on?

On a Himalayan Imports Angkhola Bowie knife. I intended to make the blade look like a wing by adding some feathers...

I didn't like the delrin handle, so it had to go! Leather and copper spacers, and maple wood I found outdoors a while back.

Thanks man, that orange sings but it only looks good on one knife per collection! Nice to see you still making progress on the Commander and the mini is looking sweet. I still need to aork on those back spacers :)

Murnax, you should be able to jewel almost any steel (or other hard material..). I think the jury is out on which way is best to do it, I use a dowel with either polishing compound or a small piece of sand paper on the end chucked into my drill press and run at a very low RPM.

Everyone else's work is awesome - keep them coming :D

I have a Strider AR I'm going to sink my teeth into and may rework the Mach 1 shown above. Still planning on tackling an Axis one of these days.
