Here's one of mine. Shiva Ki Mercinary with 9.25 inch blade made of razor sharp samurai steel, full tang with buffalo horn handles. The sheath has a string ray front with substantial leather to hold this bad boy.

"Samurai steel" is a secret process that Shiva Ki uses to get a visible Tamahagane-like pattern on his blades.

I had a small Spirit blade, and it did quite well against hard bamboo.....

Tattoo, grail means anything greatly desired and sought after, ultimate ideal or reward. Samurai steel has a distinct visible grain

here are two of mine;

As far as grail knives go, I would pick any knife which lived first in my mind, and then later became reality. The reason the grail is so elusive is because it is an idea, a metaphor.

I had a small Spirit blade, and it did quite well against hard bamboo.....and if you ask me, a professional knifemaker talking smack about another professional knifemaker in the Customs subforum is bad form....ESPECIALLY in a thread of this type, it leads to thread drift and muddies the OP's intent.

Best Regards,

STeven Garsson

Well, He did ask.

But you are correct. I apologize for interjecting an opinion that is contrary to the direction of this thread. Edited.

Lorien, That knife on the top is totally badass...

If I remember correctly, a long time on here, a high ranking military officer showed a Gerber that he had custom made back in the day, and it looks similar. He told some horror stories about that knife.

Agreed---what IS that knife on top?! One of the prettiest executions of a leaf pattern I've seen. In fact, it's almost left leaf behind and is chasing feather.

Instead of just being a jerk I will participate:

This is a "grail" in the sense that it is by far my most usefull custom. It is a great shop knife and is all around a pleasure to hold and beat the crap out of. It made by Muh-Tsyr Yee. He is one of my teachers and has studyed with Michael Bell and Francis Boyd as well as in Japan. He is a walking reference of all things sharp and Japanese. It is made out of mild steel and W-1 and has shrunk quite a bit over the years.

Mine is a Hanson Damascus Hunter in Blue Mammoth Ivory. Something about the way he does the damascus and the blue in the ivory.....just superb in my eyes.

This dirk by Vince Evans caught my eye the moment I first saw it. It's stayed with me ever since.

Great thread Nick and great knife

I have alot of favorites but the one i was the most excited about getting has to be this Satan's Lace Stag HB the first I believe that Bill ever did for some one. This knife started a Stag HB craze that Bill is still filling orders for.

don't wanna get this thread derailed, here is a link; http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=737100

Much appreciated

Yes, back to the original topic--my longtime grail knife has been one of Ed Fowler's larger camp knives, such as (picture from the Blade Gallery website):

Truth be told, I could probably find and sell enough knives out of my collection that aren't favorites to pay for this pretty easily. It's just a matter of getting off my butt and doing it. A matter that hasn't been achieved yet. :)
