Show Your DISCONTINUED Blades

Long story. I was googling for another BM LE and found one (and six other) for sale in knife store located in Taiwan. Google translated the site into English, I then emailed them. They replied, the price was acceptable, about 4-5 weeks later the package landed on my doorstep with these inside

They had some of them on display for over 6-7 years. Any US store would've sold them a long time ago. I guess they were waiting for me ;)

wow. that's definitely my favorite 960, the blue one. is it in D2 like the regular ones?

It says D2 on the blade, but there were some reports that very few early alum. bodied 960's were in fact 154CM mislabeled as D2. So it's kinda hard to be certain. I still like it though :D

You can still get the HD version with S30V blade and blue handles. They are not polished, as the the regular 960s, but matte finish provides better grip. You will have to deal with rather large HD etch on the blade, however.

I should have bought that instead of my red 960. I just noticed that the HD model is advertised as 3.4", that can't be true though right? I figured they were all the same size.

I have some.

While still in high school I worked at a sporting good store, where I spent one of my first pay checks on a Coleman/Western Bowie. I never got too much use out of it aside from occasional camp outs but, I didn't regret it.
many years later my folks found it in the basement and, by then I had gotten into outdoor education, and started carrying it as a machete only to discover it had many decent bush craft uses because of the weight and design.
it turned out to be "Old Reliable" after all
even when I retire it someday again it'll always hold a sentimental value to me.
here's an image I found on the web:
