A practice feather-stick on a green sugar-maple branch while we were collecting sap this past weekend -
I used my JK Custom Kephart with maple burl handle to do these while I was waiting for my buddy to ride back to the cabin to get the hammer - some of the spigots were leaking sap down the trees.
A little tip for tiny thin curls:
Work your way around the stick and cut on the ridge that is formed after each pass. Think of a stop sign and always shave off the points as new ones are formed.
Use a slicing motion for long ribbon curls.
