You can get kangaroo leather lace-its quite thin but very strong leather -in a fantastic range of colours from OZ off ebuy.

My first attempt ever making a "Reeve" noose lanyard out of anything, I tweaked it a bit and got it a bit more symmetrical. Decent for a first crack at it (I think), there are more lanyards to be made tomorrow!

The only leather lanyards I make now are just simple laminated leather bead type ones .
I originally made them for the purpose of a retention system for a design of SAK sheath I came up with, but have since used them for everyday lanyards .

Really liking all of the creativity here, I changed the title, now that I have a small idea of what to do. Keep them coming!

Looks great! Now you are hooked, and will spend the winter months tying lanyards. You will have to buy more knives for them all. It's a vicious cycle, I'm afraid. :D

Oh, and see if there's a Tandy Leather in your area. They sell leather cord as well as scrap odds and ends by the pound.

Thanks! I can definitely see how this is addicting! Im going to have to stock up, the WI winters can be brutal, a great time to get proficient at it!

We had to learn to braid in Scout camp, stayed with me for over 50 years. I remember when even our little town had a Tandy Leather Shop. I think the faded paint is still on the side of the building. Maybe that was before the horse was replaced by the 4-wheeler. 300

I have to agree that for traditionals, the leather is more traditional. However, for a SAK I'd go paracord, simply because the design (plastic or alox scales) can handle the paracord look and not make it look cheap. Whereas, IMO, paracord on a jigged bone or stag anything brings down the luster and beauty.

I don't have lanyards on any of my folders, but I might here real soon. Who knows.

Can you please elaborate on that knot/washer type deal? Did you glue leather washers on there or is this some type of knot?
And, I think thats a great idea for a retention setup! Thanks

I tried Gary's method. Looks better in real life, 1stattempt; I'll try again and better. Leather is a bit soft for that.
