Hey, I know there's alot of dog people who frequent this forum so I thought I would ask here.

Yesterday we had my daughters birthday party and we caged our three dogs. When I let them out about 2 hours later, I noticed that my 5mo. Mini pincer had vomited all over the cage. I thought it was stress, we don't often cage them, but he's been vomiting pretty constantly since then. First all his food, then all his water, then all the bile and now he just drinks a bunch of water and vomits it up about 5-10 min. later.

He's to the point that he's just laying around and shaking with his stomach all sucked in, no energy level to speak of, he's a sad little guy.

4 o'clock will be 24 hours of vomiting and he's going to the vet at 3:45 but he's really starting to worry me.

He was eating some couch stuffing the other day, but I'm pretty sure he passed it and he's had 2 BM's since he started getting sick. Don't think he has a blockage.

I don't think he got into anything, chocolate, poisonous plants, cleaning products. My pit and my beagle are fine and we supervise the little guy when he goes outside because he's still housetraining.

How worried should I be?

Sounds like a bowel obstruction. Not trying to scare you. If he is vomiting up bile, that means that it isn't passing downstream. They can try to let it pass, or might want to xray his belly and see what the problem is. Let us know how he is doing.

has he had all his shots? Sounds like Parvo. I hope it isn't. Generally it is a 50/50 shot of survival.

This is what I was thinking too, happens to my parent's cat all the time.

Very. My Dachshund got a little bone in her stomach and it caused her all sorts of trouble. THE VET WAS ABLE TO TAKE CARE OF THE PROBLEM so don't worry that much but get the little critter looked at.
Please keep us posted.

Well, parvo was neg. good thing.

Could be a blockage, could just be irritation in the bowel from eating strange materials.

As of right now, he's staying over night with IV fluids and getting an X-ray in the morning if they feel it's warrented.

Oh, and I'm $521 dollars poorer......so far.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that part.:foot:
I haven't heard lately. How is the job search? Are you gainfully employed?

That's really good news about the Parvo test. Errrr about the price tag so far. Don't want to think about what the final price will be. We should be able to carry family pets as dependants on our health insurance.

Depends on your definition of "gainfully".:D

Not working a regular job, just doing what I can. Were making it but I much prefer a steady paycheck.

Just spent a week putting chicken wire around a ladies property who was tired of rabbits. Made more in a week doing that than I ever did as a tech. But now I have nothing lined up for this coming week so it all evens out.

Believe it or not, doing little odd jobs like that can keep your head above water. With summer around the corner there will be lawn maintenance people will need. Other handyman jobs are out there if you are not afraid of getting your hands dirty. Hope the pup gets better. They are our four legged children/friends.

I love getting my hands dirty, wouldn't have it any other way.:D

My problem is I'm in Texico, more than enough labor down here if you know what I mean.

Poor pup! Let us know how's he doing. Funny how they become family so quick . . .

Oh yea. He's my little buddy. Sleeps on my pillow.

When my wife found him on the web, the last thing I wanted was another dog, let alone a little tiny worthless dog, but he's my little bro now.

Aww, sad to hear. I hope all turns out well. Keep us posted.

I wouldn't care about the cost, a dog is like a member of the family. I would pay just as much for a dog as I would for myself.

Good luck with your pup, hope it all works out for him.

Going through the vet thing here with my Rottie too.. big golf-ball sized lump in her throat.
Was already on antibiotics for two weeks ($100.00) and her vet bill alone was another hundred and something.
Had aspirates done twice, both times the pathology lab said they don't feel it's cancer but cannot say what is causing it.
The two vets at the clinic both feel that the best course of action now is to remove it surgically and go from there... to the tune of $1200.00 !
There is a medication they say they could try, but it's still expensive (200 bucks for 1 or 2 weeks) and since they can't say for sure the cause.. there is no guarantee the drug will work anyway.

Plus we have another pup that just had all his first shots and checkup for yet another $200.00 !
No wonder my vet loves me !!!

But I trust her with my dogs and take her advice. If you have a good vet that you like, stick with them.

I hope the lil pup gets better soon bro!

Good luck on the job search, and God bless!

interesting symptoms. Please let us know how it turns out asap! If this is a common occurrence we can all learn from it.

Hopefully just Coccsidiosis or Giardia.
Many pups get it and most breeders keep medicine for both on hand.
It's easily treated.
Dogs usually get it from drinking out of puddles or contact with bird crap.
