Question: would the blade be longer than 12" if straightened out, or is the blade 12" along the curved spine? In other words, how is blade length measured in a curved/bent blade design such as this?

It is measured in a straight line from the front of the handle to the tip of the blade.

Good god. I think I'll even drink to this one. Thanks Boss. This just pulled me off the wagon head first (not that I was ever on it :D).
