Signup: Large Plain Sebenza Passaround

Just want to give everyone a heads up, I am not trying to be D-cky or anything. I figure the better this thing stays on track, the faster everyone gets it for there week and the fast it gets raffled off to its new home. :)

It will be in the mail when I get off work today. No need to panic. I tried the post office yesterday but the dam place was closed.

I have grown really fond of this knife, It is going to be hard to part with.

My fingers are crossed and hopfully I will be geting it back.

If not I will have to send a couple of blades to the ol' choppin' block.

I will email out the usps confirmation number later tonight.

Mark. :)

It is on it's way to Ted.

All I can say is that the knife really grew on me.

It is very practical and subdued. There are allot of other knives to choose from out there and I have a few already. I have yet to see anything that can compare to the Sebenza. I love the simplicity and the durability. Is it worth $345.00? I am not really sure. If I find one used for $250.00 I would go for it after letting a few other go. I just don't have that kind of immediate cash. And you are getting into custom balisong range. But since balis are illegal to carry in this crazy state the benza would make an Ideal edc for me.

If I win this one all :) :) :).

I think this knife is more than a status symbol. I realized this when I first took it apart. It seems if you want one knife to count on this could be the one.

Although I can not figure out why only one thumb stud? If you know please let me know. In a situation where you need to open it with the left hand, good luck. And $35.00 to have it added on seems a little loco. Oh well.

All and all it has been great to see what all the hype is about.

Thanks to everyone participating.

Good luck to all.

Mark...

Thanks Mark, 1-in-8 says shes coming back to ya. You never know. Good luck and thanks again. Jason

Picture me sitting in front of my computer, palms sweaty, big grin on my face, heart pumpin' a little quicker, No I'm not surfin' porn, just found out the Sebenzas on the way.:D

Mark: After you took the sebenza apart, did the action loosen up? When I had it, it was pretty firm, but I just got my own sebenza (also a Large Classic 2000) and it is much looser...

I have found that you can loosen the action by bending the locking bar out (away from the knife) a bit. You will still get very solid lockup, but opening the knife will be much easier.

Mike

The action was a bit stiff and loosening the pivot did nothing. As medic stated you would have to bend the bar which I did not do. It did not bother me to much due to the fact of the incredible lock strength. If It were mine I would have loosened her up just a little bit as to require less wrist snap to open up.

FWIW, If you guys touch the lock bar I want my money back.

In my experience, a sebenza will take a few weeks to a few months to loosen up, some are just tighter than others.

Just curious, but why? It does nothing to the effectiveness of the lock. It still locks fully, and your grip secures the lock in the locked position. The only thing it does, is reduces the pressure the ball detent exerts on the blade. It makes it much more comfortable to open considering the pointy "Madonna Bra" thumb stud that CR uses. JMHO. And if you don't like that, just bend the lock in the opposite direction. BTW, I'm not talking about deforming the handle, just reducing the pressure slightly. You don't bend the bar back much, only slightly.

Mike

It voids the warranty.

Also, IMO, no one should undertake to modify a passaround or any knife they don't own, without explicit permission of the owner. (Excepting sharpening/cleaning of course)

It could be the owner (yet to be determined) wants it this way. (y'all wouldn't mind if I ground some homemade serrations on wouldya? :p )

Also I beg to differ, the only way you can effectively modify the lock bar pressure is to give it a permanent deformation.

By definition, elastic deformation means after appying a force it goes back to normal, that is doesn't change, which is not what you described (ie: changing the pressure).

I agree with Dave. Please don't modify the lock bar.

The only reason I asked is because I wasn't sure if my knife was too lose. It appears this is normal and will work out with time.

The Sebenza arrived late yesterday, took it to work today and put it thru it's paces. I sliced alot of cardboard stripped some wire, stabbed myself with the point:eek: not bad, just a little nick.

My first impression was that it was smaller than I thought it would be, and lighter than I thought it would be, it's very well balanced for the size and very comfortable.

Another thing that amazed me was how such a big friggin' blade fits so nice in such a slender handle? I can't understand why I thought it was so big and bulky before.

This is a quality made knife, and after this, I will own one one way or another, so add my name to the Seebie Club Roster, I'll be a member soon,(sooner If I win).:D

I can tell, if I don't win this knife my wife is gonna be pissed, how am I gonna explain how I had to spend $350 on a knife if I don't win?:(

As I said before I'll add the zippered case for the winner to keep and to ship it back and forth.

One last thing when you ship this knife out how much did you insure it for?
