Simple Simon met a Pieman

All but the Bocote is spoken for, I might keep that one for myself, haven't decided yet. I've got a good amount of blackwood and it has some really nice grain, I scored a good amount of blocks from a cello maker, curvy grain or the remote chance of a little knot makes for scrap I guess. What gives them woes, gives us nice figured pieces.

If you engrave My Knive(sic) on the Bocate, then use it a bit, it'll double the value once you're famous. Cereally!

Ready for pins and keys

Bocote, you pretty little snake in the grass.

I've owned four Bocate handled knives in the past. The blocks always looked sooo good, but the finished product looked horrid. Glad yours came out nice John, very nice in fact. That certainly wasn't my experience. Desert Ironwood, by the way, is the same. I'll tell you something that is spectacular and seldom seen, is palm wood. Comes out nice, speckled or striped, kinda like lizard skin, and just simply kicks ass when polished...

Check it out (google search) if you get a chance...

I've got a nice amount of red palm but I haven't used it. I was amazed at how dense it was. I polished a piece up and it felt like stone, I'll have to try some out.

The bocote in the above pic isn't finished or buffed, it's just sanded to 1000 grit. We'll see how it turns out.

Haven't had a lot of shop time the last few days. I'll try to get some pictures up in the wee hours tonight:thumbup:

Are you finally over the weather? (as opposed to being under the weather)

I've been above the weather, just busy the last few days. I don't recommend the virus from last week unless youre looking for rapid weight loss!

Those Blanks sure are Clean,Decisions Decisions, I know they'll come out Great,
That Slot looks like some sort of keyway pin????

Carl, yes, this is John's (lessismore) design.
2 hours and 29 minutes of tap, tap, tap later, the pins and key are peened. I'll file the key down tomorrow and see how it came out, cross your fingers.
Got a little bit of shaping done on the handle.

We had the bug a couple of weeks ago, was a bugger to get rid of! Stayed in the chest

Welcome to Bladeforums Carl, the key was one of those odd ideas I couldn't get out of my head, the plan was to try it on just one to see how it would work out, and it stuck with the batch. It slots through and gets epoxied and peened. An inlayed shield would be easier, but I am my own worst enemy:D

I was just givin you a bad time :D
I figured Mike, but I've felt bad about not getting some pics up for you guys. Shop time has been hen's teeth lately, I'll be peening keys in the wee hours:thumbup:

The key, like the cowbells just might be your key to success. If others try to copy it with an inletted shield it will be seen much like the shield on slipjoints. If you don't do it right it will be frowned upon. You are obviously doing it right.

Peening in the wee hours beats weening in the pee hours. I think.
