Simple Simon met a Pieman

A couple of layers would look sharp, maybe a simple black/white/black. Dovetailed and slanted scales with some liner in between, yeah, this brain worm is digging in.

Maybe we'll start a thread when I get a fair sketch finished and brainstorm it.

I love the way you think, John.

Knifemangling has oiled some gears up there that never worked before.

Great minds think alike!

JoshRG makes some really nice knives and they sell as fast as he posts them. AAforge also makes a lot of knives that are worth taking a look at, so much that I may add some styles like those myself. More food for thought.

They both do some nice clean work, I'll take another look.

Yep, need a thread for brainstorming, this will be a fun project.

I seem to remember you having a really nice design for a hunter. Perhaps this is the place to get it made to your specs.

Thanks Mack. I was thinking the same thing. The first attempt certainly didn't go quite as planned :D

I is all ears.
If you guys ever want to work up a design or play with an idea, start up a thread and have at it:thumbup:

Or maybe some kind of design spitballing thread? Whatever you guys want to do, it's your house, Spark keeps the lights on and I do a little sweeping up.

I saved the drawings of the knife I wanted to have done somewhere, I just need to find them.
I haven't looked at them for quite awhile, but the thought of having the knife made the way I intended it to be,
still interests me...

I told the first maker that if he noticed anything he thought needed to be changed to definitely let me know, because while I
know exactly what I like in a knife, I ain't no knife maker. The problem was, the maker didn't see anything that he thought would be
a problem, he just took it upon himself to get creative with my design, and those were his exact words :grumpy:

But, even as disappointed as I was, life has managed to continue on just fine :D Now that I think about it, maybe having that knife made was bad luck because I haven't gotten a deer or elk since then.
Heck, last season I even carried Macks VERY cool Damascus Patton knife with me all season, and still couldn't pull it off :o

I will look for the pictures here in the near future and see what your thoughts are about the design. Now that I have really thought about it, maybe I will
scale the knife down a little and turn it into a fishing knife. It might get more use :D

Thanks Mack, I went with black to see how it would look. What do you think, black or an antiqued dark brown?

I have always liked antiqued brown sheaths, but I can see how the argument could be made for black, especially depending
on the color of wood used for the scales.

Let me know what you come up with Mike, I'll take a look at it. We can either go over it in a thread here, or through emails. I'll warn you though, it's tough for me to make an exact copy off of drawings. Kind of like having a sketch artist copy a picture with tracing paper, something gets lost usually. If I can pull it off like you want it, I'll be upfront about it and if anything needed changed for a structural reason, we can work that out beforehand. I'd be more than happy to give it a go as long as you're in no hurry. No strings attached.

I'm gonna start a thread called the drawing board, I figure we can work up the wharncliffe design,or whatever you guys want to come up with. Mike if you find the picture, or come up with a fishing design, we'll do a seperate thread if you wanna go over it out in the open here.

Thanks John. That sounds good. I'm definitely not in a hurry... I know I still have copies of the drawing, I will just have to spend some time looking through the various
files to find them.

Nice, John! Looks good!
Looks like the Grouch(?) has his eyes on one!
What thickness stock are they from?

1/8" full flat grind.

The grouch keeps me in line (a used bandaid from my daughter, "Here Dad", ...umm thanks?)

Keep one...

I made a good steel blank, it's the first time I've done that, but there's something about this design that I really like.

There's one that's not spoken for and I'm tempted to keep it for myself. But that doesnt put belts on the grinder, or steel on the shelf!

I always see that theres "guests" reading these threads, why dont you guys get off yer arses and register?

Heres a link-
Registration, free and takes two minutes, ooh scary!:D

1/8" full flat grind. That should be the basis for most cutting tools in my opinion. If you need something heavier, you're doing it wrong.
and yes, I am being a little facetious but not much.

I agree Mack, I don't like to go thicker than 5/32".

Blades got the last temper cycle in this morning and the scales are cut. The jig is working great so far for cutting the key slots.

Gettin' jiggy with it, eh?

This pic doesn't do the Chechen on the far right justice, they're all slotted for the key, I'll drill pin holes next, and trim them down a little proud of the tang.
