Thats wild TBL.. Hope they get it out without too much issue....

You better watch that one.. He is already trying to snort rocks  -snark

Yea man i really like the design as well. Easy to put the paper on and change it out when its done. No extra handle space that covers the area your working on like a lot of the plastic/rubber ones. His filing jig is also really cool. He is very creative.

I think its easier to create 2 of them at the same time than just doing one.... Yea that sounds right... Since you can only use 1 at a time anyways.... You can always send me the spare... Hey I'm just looking out for you LMAO :D

LOL!! You may be right about that buddy. I'll make 3 since the first one will be a test one to work out the details and probably be thrown away. I'll send you the other my friend.

Just note that it may take me a very long time before I attempt to make these since it's not a high priority, but you better bet that I will eventually get around to it! haha

So i come home from work today to find my mother in law watching the baby and my little girl. Apparently my son decided it was a good idea to stick a rock up his nose...then pushed it all the way up while trying to dig it out lol. They are at the hospital where the doctors have not been able to get it out by conventional means. Currently they are putting him under to try and get it from behind.....can't help but think of Homer Simpson with the box of crayons

Relax, TBL. I shoved plenty wocks and cwayoms up my snoot sdecadesmany years ago, and it hasn't haffected me onedf bitglurrgle snort twitch mutter.

Thanks brother!! No rush at all!!

Right now i think ill just sandwich the paper ends between 2 pieces of scrap wood and screw it down. Should work ok... Better than holding it on anyways LOL

or just staple gun the edges of the paper to the wood. I usually do that or even just tape it with painters tape.
Really only works well if you are making sanding boards that you don't want to change the grit out on, so make a few of them.

No staple gun... I do have a hot glue gun... after a few sheets though it would likely be a hot mess LOL

Does the painter tape actually hold up to all the work? That would be easiest. Ill give it a go.

I need to go grab some wood. For sanding blocks, handles etc..... I just have this problem where each time i get any wood i cut or chop it all up.... Its an addiction. Im not satisfied until its all chips or dust.... I need counseling LOL :D

Boy is home. All is good. They let him keep the rock too haha!

My wife said when he was coming around after sedation he was saying some pretty funny things. Now he's got the munchies too :D

yea, no hot glue. You can get the spray adhesive stuff by 3m and make permanent sanding blocks. Works great. Even the other glues will work, just make sure it is even and there are no air bubbles.

The painters tape works most of the time. You just have to make sure the surface is really clean and start with new sand paper.

And yea I understand about wanting to chop it all up. lol

If you are wanting to make nicer sanding blocks, get the mdf. you can shape it to different shapes and make radiuses and stuff to sand curves in stuff. It's also really flat if you need a super flat surface. Only downside is if it gets wet or oily, it gets ruined. So you have to put some kind of sealer on it. The spray shellac works great. I learned how to make them from master guitar builder I was studying with.

I use to use a bunch of that mdf for making speaker boxes... Good stuff, but like you say dont let it get wet!!

Ill likely hit the scrap piles and get whatever is cheapest... Imma cheap bastid :D

Push lawnmowers loose stability around 23mph too when being towed down the road at the end of a long rope with my then Chevy Blazer. Past 23 they start to cartwheel down the road and attempt to pass the vehicle towing it while sparking like crazy.

Jeremy
Was this lawnmower running? I really hope so. No point running the same experiment twice.

I had a skateboard I made when I was a kid, steel wheels from some 60's strap-on roller skates and plywood. Got a friend of mine to "tow" me with his bike (laundry line and a 1" dowel I filched from my dad's shop). I prolly didn't even get up to 13 mph before I started getting the speed wobbles and hit the deck. Tore the knees outta my new jeans (tore up my knees, too). Caught holy hell for that. Fun times. Kids just don't do their own physics experiments anymore. We didn't even have helmets, for cryin' out loud. And we're still here....most of us, at any rate.

Your mind is a steel trap. I drink. Lol.

I've got a mind like a steel trap, too.....rusted shut.

I can't see the pics. This is the same son who's handling firearms? ......

Be real cheap. Go to HD or Slowe's and get some Trex decking samples. Maybe even free. Plastic wood. Stable and easily machined. Flatten out the woodgrain texture on your 6" wheel. Or some pallets, for actual wood.

TBL - Sounds like the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. :D

All this talk about running wheeled items down hill brings back some good, yet painful memories. When riding an old tricycle down a steep hill, try to keep your legs away from the flailing pedals of death on the front wheel. Also, those plastic "big wheel" tricycles will explode into about 20 pieces if they veer out of control and hit a ditch at velocity.

WW, seems like you are getting the grinding bug really good. Hold on to those 2 and order more steel, sending just those 2 is way more expensive than sending a bigger batch. I'm working now on some AEB-L kitchen knives and then will switch to 52100 hunters or whatever fancy strikes the mood, as I ordered plenty of steel from Aldo. To give you an idea, my first time with Peter's was just 3 knives and with the shipping it came close to a hundred bucks. If I recall correctly, they have a fixed rate for batches of 10-20 blades.

Thanks for the tips brother,

Yea 100 bucks could get me A LOT of steel LOL, id rather be able to keep making knives than to have 2 heat treated.

I remember asking Brad when i was up at PHT checking out the facility how much it cost, cant remember exactly but i think it was something like 20-25 bucks per blade up to 4, then from 4-20 is a set price of a 100 or something like that... I maybe screwing that all up though LOL

But it would take me a LONG time to get to where i needed 20 knives HT'd... Probably easier to look for other people wanting O1 heat treated and split costs on 1 shipment LOL im always looking for a cheaper way :D
