A little over two weeks down, six more to go on this trip. Sad to miss the gathering...I need to make it in the spring.

The cooking gear is lousy here, so I bought a Lodge skillet...thinner than the ones I have at home. Made decent tacos with the leftover ribeyes from last weekend.

Grilled salmon on the menu today.ImageUploadedByTapatalk1411342373.199608.jpgImageUploadedByTapatalk1411342402.099969.jpg

Photos. Taking it to the cabin with me. Shouldn't be anything a little batonning won't take care of. Really surprised by it. Have other stripped blades, never had this problem:

Well crap, took it to the cabin with me, and gave it a workout. Never even remotely removed the rust, haha. Gonna have to sand her again, and this time, put a patina on it. I'll post up a thread later. The Brute was fun to use. Glad I took it.

EDIT: Ah, so it is a different steel, gotcha.

What's everyone got going on today?

I ended up going to Cabela's with the wife. Picked up a few ceramic sharpening rods. Looked at a Beretta 92FS and 92A1. Both of them take the same magazines as my CX4, and I liked the sites a little bit better on the 92A1.... Christmas is coming. Also picked up a knife magazine to read, apparently the National Knife Museum that is located at Rockey Mountain is moving to the NRA's Museum, a very interesting read so far.

After which we went over to the inlaws place and I've been drunk ever since...

Great day had by me!

I also got an idea for a custom knife I want made... Think I'll have to draw this one out. I always get these while I'm inebriated in some way shape or form.

Now what you need is an idea on on how you're going to get the $$ necessary to have it made.....

I carry an M9 at work. Nothing wrong with it but I don't like the safety so I didn't really want to own my own. Until this happened.

Now I'd really like to get an M9A1. And send it to them for some custom work.

Pretty cool to see you start making knives WW!
Good luck on your new venture!

Dead snark.

I could really go for some pepsi right now. Haven't had ANY in a few days now.

We got a few gallons of that Arizona southern style sweet tea when they had a big sale on it several days back, and i mix a gallon of that tea with a gallon of water. Makes it not as sweet and reduces the amount of caffeine per glass. Saves a lot of money over a 2 liter of pepsi a day as well. Plus i figure its healthier that way and still taste good to me. Not as good as pepsi, but i still like it. Got some regular tea bags as well so ill brew my own in the wife's coffee pot when this runs out.

sounds like a good plan, WW, except for the part about putting tea in your wife's coffee pot...

0170-6C (AKA "CarbonV"), at least the way Camillus HT'ed it, is awesome stuff. It will "blossom" like you're seeing pretty easily, but I haven't seen it truly rust or even pit much on my knives (ColdSteel TM and MH), and I've purposely abused/neglected them pretty badly. For reasons I don't fully understand, under normal to fairly rough conditions it seems to only corrode just so much and then just kind of stop... unlike O1 and 52100, which will eventually just rust away into a useless flaky orange lump if you let them go unoiled long enough in a relatively humid environment like WI or TN. (keep in mind, we're talking years here, not weeks or months). It's easy to put any sort of patina on it that you like.

Yeah, You're telling me! I'll just have to start saving up!

Hoss that 92A1 is sexy! I used to carry a S&W M&P .40 for work. I want the 92FS or A1 because the mags are interchangeable with my CX4. I also really like the feel of it in my hands. The few time's I've gotten to shoot other people's at the range I go to I really liked it.

Whats wrong with using the coffee pot to brew tea?? Im not that picky. Im just going to be using lipton tea bags from walfart and i dont have the time or patience to make 1 cup at a time and wait for it to cool. I dont drink anything hot.

Growing up we didnt have fancy tea pots or a kettle, or time for making a single cup at a time. But there was always a coffee pot around.. we just rinsed out the coffee pot and threw several bags of tea in the basket and let it do its thing, then poured the pot of brewed tea into a gallon jug and filled the rest with ice cold water and added sugar.... It worked.
