I just mine in today. It's a very, very dark burgundy Micarta.

Is that a outside or inside picture

That’s unfortunate. Still a really nice knife, but doesn’t have the rich color depth they showed us on the web site. I guess they decided against a custom sheath too.

Looks shiny new. I bet when that shininess wears off from use some of that character will come out more and more.

One side does have a touch of lighter grain. With D2 this is a user for me. Fit and finish where the tang meets the guard is way better now. The first ones had the tang offset before disappearing View attachment 1153222 View attachment 1153226 View attachment 1153227 View attachment 1153228 View attachment 1153231 View attachment 1153233 View attachment 1153234 into the guard. These are all centered.

We're the cherrywood ones you posted up before centered or did they have the offset tang? The micarta in yours has almost a wood grain look to it.

good pics Mike, thanks. shows color off better than any other pic I've seen yet.

Wish mine looked like that. Mine looks dark, almost black, with zero character in the Micarta. If both sides of the handle looked like the side that has the "Buck USA" on your knife, I would have been thrilled with the knife. Mine would clearly pass for black Micarta.

Centered tang. For the money the cherry is a great little knife.

That Micarta should almost be called black cherry. It's beautiful but little definition in color. Solid for the most part.

My greatest regret on this knife was posting the photo that Buck sent over to me initially. It is a very very light example of the knife. Most are darker. The photos that I took and sent out show the darker knife, and those are what is on the website. Unfortunately the lighter photo from Buck is now creating expectations that no one would have had, had I never posted that photo. Expectations not managed.

Also, the custom sheath is for the 104, not this.

still a great knife....got d2 and micarta regardless what color it is......

At casual glance, mine looks like a black phenolic handle. Micarta grain only shows under closer inspection or very bright lighting.

I agree.

Not your fault. Buck should have sent a sample that was more the norm.

Knife guys are used to variations, but once you have an expectation it is hard to adjust to reality sometimes.

It is still a great knife and the sheath is good quality.

I appreciate your participation in the forum.
