Skulls!?

I'm just giving my opinion on why some men don't like skulls, masculine imagery and all that. Some people just don't like it. Some people don't want anything masculine around them because they've been taught that masculinity is offensive and not acceptable. The number of those men grows daily. Like an entire generation of men raised by single moms

Take a step back and look at a skull as what it is, an architectural masterpiece. The arches and curves give strength and form that took centuries of work to reproduce in man-made materials. The muscular attachment points are aligned with astonishing precision and symmetry. The myriad bones of the cranium are sutured together to form a cohesive whole, which is even more amazing given the drift in bone formation over the fontanels present at birth. We can go back to the Bard again and say, "what a piece of work is man." But I stick skull beads on my knife fobs because that's what they sell, and there are no sharp corners to get caught up or scratch things.

I like skulls. Hell, I've got two full sleeves and some tattoos on my legs in which skulls feature prominently. I'm an anthropologists, so skulls are important for my work, too.

However, I'm not terribly fond of them on knives. I like my knives simple. I remember seeing some Protechs with skulls that looked really tacky.

i also do not like skulls on my tools, including knives. like others have said, i find the design really tacky.

on top of that, i don't understand their popularity in decorations either. they almost always end up looking really over the top cheesy to me.

What about giant skulls?

Generally I too don't like it. Often I see it on product, I feel it is childish, mall ninja wanna be. A automatic turn off.
With that said, however, sometimes I see people still going creative with these lanyard accessories, its kinda cool. I don't buy it though.

I kinda wanna put a bumper sticker with that on my car. LOL
BTW, I found the line you highlighted back there curious as well.

I have exactly one knife with a skull bead. It came with the bead, which also doubles as a way to adjust the length of the paracord that also came with it. I don't really think about the skull one way or the other since I don't even see it most of the time.
Too much of anything gets cheesy/tacky/too ornate, IMO. I've seen damascus blades with highly figured wood handle scales with engraved bolsters. Always seems like too much to me. But someone likes 'em. Don't bother me none.

Pretty strong opinion, regardless of that opinion it is reaching and you are swinging a mighty broad brush. Not saying you are totally incorrect, but there is an exaggeration factor involved in your opinion. No need to get insulty with the rest of it. Relax, contribute amicably to the discussion. If you can't then read and move onto the next pearl of wisdom.

I don't own any knives with skulls on them, but I once hung a wolf skull on my front door. Works a lot better than a "no soliciting" sign.

Skulls remind me of my own mortality that can be snatched/yoked up in an instant and, for the forums here, they bring to mind Ernie Emerson. I've seen him a time or two but never close enough to shake his hand for bringing to market hard use knives that perform their required task when duty called upon them to do just that. He was always in a crowd. Seems like a regular fellow like the vast majority of cutlery industry folk I've been lucky enough to meet. His use of skulls seems like good fun. I do prefer a sterile blade and an unmarked knife as much as possible myself, as long as I can determine authenticity that is.

I consider skulls on cutlery to be of the same ilk as tacticool knives.
What's a "tacticool knife" ?

I usually put something heavy on my lanyards/fobs but when I got the CQC-7 it had to be an Emerson skull, it was no other way, got to be loyal to the brand...
Than I found bunch of skulls with glowing green eyes and got those because sometimes I need to find my folder in the dark.
Don't particularly care about what a skull will represent but on a knife they look OK I guess...

For all of you Emerson/skull knuts, here is a skull job coming for my 620, I love it... :D

I see nothing wrong with skull beads but I prefer something more plain. There doesn't seem to be a lot of variety aside from the types of skulls; that, and they all seem overpriced to me.

The great thing is that people that don't like skulls don't have to buy products featuring them. This is like people arguing over whether manual or automatic transmissions are best.
